You close your eyes and concentrate until a direction comes, unbidden to your mind. You open
your eyes and veer left. As you are walking, the forest becomes increasingly dense. Moss and
ferns cover the ground and there are often large trees that fell many years ago and are in various
states of decay. The silence is nearly deafening and even your feet make very little noise when
you walk, that's why when you hear noises around you, your ears prick up and start to tingle
gently. You look around and fail to see anything. Though the forest is still and silent, the tingling
sensation continues in your ears. You reach up and scratch the back of your head and on the way
back, your hand strikes something on the side of your head. You realize that the sensation came
from your ear, but there's no way you could have hit your ear. Could you? You reach up again
and feel your ears which now stick out far from your head and are becoming a little furry.
"What's happening to me," you think as your stomach gurgles and you begin to feel a little sick.
You clutch your arms around your stomach and as the pain becomes unbearable, you fall to your
knees. Your stomach gurgles again and you bend forward, place your hands on the ground, and
dry-heave a few times. When you finally open your eyes again, you see that your fingers have
begun to fuse and turn black and coarse brown fur has grown on your wrists and is currently
working up your arms.
You try to stand up and run away, but a pain from your back throws you to the ground again.
You reach around to feel your back, but your arms are becoming increasingly stiff and it is
difficult work. Eventually you give up and crane your neck (at an angle you didn't think you
could manage) to see that a furry tail has grown out of your backside.
The pain at the top of your head, in your face, and the pain in your feet all start at the same time.
You guess correctly that the pain on your head are just your antlers coming in and the pain in
your face is pushing out to form a muzzle. As your new black nose splits your vision, you decide
to concentrate on your feet which are straining hard against your shoes. Trying very hard, you
manage to bend far enough to reach your shoes and force them off along with your socks. Your
toes have fused into cloven hooves and your feet are in the process of lengthening as the rest of
your legs seem to shorten.
Your clothes are becoming increasingly uncomfortable. You are able, with extraordinary effort,
to take off your pants and notice that a white stripe of fur runs up your stomach, brown fur
surrounding it. Your legs gradually and, against your will, work their way up so that they are at a
right angle to your body and your arms are just behind them. When your shoulders and hips both
click into place, you decide to give standing another shot and work your way to all fours. As
your transformations complete and your mind gradually slips away, a herd of deer bound away in
front of you which you lope off after.
