Kevin took a few steps along the muddy banks of the pond, his eyes alert for any movement among the lilypads.
As a result, he wasn't looking when he landed one of his rubber boots atop the medallion his froggified brother had dropped in the mud. From his lilypad vantage, Jared saw his brother's boot descent in slow-motion style onto the medallion, squishing the object deep into the mud before lifting again with a sucking, squelching noise as the mud closed over the medallion, burying it deep out of reach of a tiny, now desperate frog.
"Kevin! No!" Jared croaked. "What have you done?"
Kevin turned at the sound of the croaking frog and spied the green amphibian atop a nearby lilypad.
"This is gonna be easy," the boy said.
