"All I know is that I've got a magic ring and I'm not sure what it can do or how it works," said Mary Elise, "I only know of a few people who even believe in magic."
"So maybe you can ask them for help," said Karen.
"Well, I would, but most of them hate me," said Mary Elise, "Well, Katie might be willing to listen to me, but I'd rather not chance talking to her sister." After what Mary and Lisa had been through, Mary doubt that Lisa would ever allow her within 10 feet of her sister, let alone let her talk to her.
"But what about Kellie? She was trying to reach out to you," said Karen.
"Well, I guess so," said Mary uncertainly. She had a feeling she had already burned that bridge, but Kellie didn't outright reject her.
"So just call her and ask her for advice," said Karen.
"Uh..." said Mary, suddenly seeing a big flaw with that plan.
"What?" asked Karen.
"Do you know her phone number?" asked Mary.
"No, I didn't even know her until you talked about her," said Karen.
"Rats," said Mary Elise. But then she felt a tingle in the ring. "Oops," she said as she realized what she just did.
Karen suddenly felt herself getting smaller, uncomfortable hairs already sticking out through her skin. "Undo it! Undo it!" squeaked Karen.
Mary Elise could feel herself changing too so she quickly wished for her and Karen to stay human. The weird feeling soon faded as their size returned to normal and the hair disappeared.
"Maybe you shouldn't say animal names while you have that thing," said Karen.
"Right," said Mary, "I really need to figure out how to work this thing."
