I allowed myself a brief freak-out.
Don't think that you would do better! We can talk after you find yourself less than half an inch long with six legs and two twitching antennae sprouting out of your forehead. So, yeah, I freaked for a bit, but calmed myself with the realization that my flurry of panicked thoughts wasn't doing me the least good.
I theorized that, if I wasn't dreaming, the amulet was the only possible explanation for my transformation. I crept on my six legs to the base of my sofa, which rose from the floor a monolith to human achievement. I found the fabric of the upholstery perfect for climbing with my tiny legs, which used sharp claws to cling to the surface as I made a vertical climb with little exertion on my part. My body was now so lightweight it took hardly any strength to pull it along.
I had to admire my new fleetness, having quickly scaled the massive sofa to reach the amulet atop the cushions. Climbing onto the surface of the massive gold object, I examined the amulet with my new eyes. It wasn't easy to focus, but I noticed one thing had changed. The image of the tiny ant had disappeared with an outline that looked definitely like an approximation of a male human shape.
That made sense. The amulet did have a way to change me back. That was the good news.
The bad news was that the hand was a good distance from the human figure etched into the gold. It had settled over the image of a horse. I would need to nudge that hand into place over the human male and then use my thumb to...
Oh fuck!
I looked at the deep indention designed for a human thumb. I stared into the smooth bowl that would easily fit my entire ant body. Would just being in proximity help?
Only one way to find out, but I'd need to move the thin sliver of gold, looking much like the needle of a compass, into the desire position.
I could do it! I had to do it!
The alternative would be to remain a tiny bug. My antennae twitched and my mandibles clicked in a disapproving manner, sort of like an ant shrug.
