"Back to normal!" read the card.
"Oh, thank god," Jen said, not ready to have her form changed quite yet. She got ready for school, and caught her bus. Her day went as normal; she'd almost forgotten about the cards until she returned to her room. They lay innocently on her nightstand, all laid out in an arch, the card she'd picked facing up for all to read. "Back to normal."
It then struck Jen that she only had one "back to normal" card left, giving her much anxiety. She tossed and turned in the night, terrified for what would come in the morning...
BZZZ. BZZZZ. BZZ- her phone vibrated, waking her up.
She silenced her phone and turned over, rubbing her eyes. She stretched and yawned, not quite awake. However, when she opened her eyes and saw an entirely new deck of cards, she was instantly jolted awake. "Oh, oh no," she said, feeling a deep compulsion to take one of the cards. She shifted to the edge of her bed, took a deep breath, and selected the rightmost card.
"Back to normal," it read in plain, sans-serif lettering.
"FUCK!" she screamed, realizing now that her fate was sealed. She began to weep, knowing this was her last day with an unchanged, uncorrupted form. She spent the whole day in a haze, anxious for what tomorrow would bring. Sleep did not come to her that night; anxiety tormented her endlessly, even her slight half-hour respites into sleep ended in nightmares where she'd become some inhuman monster.
She sat up in bed, staring out the window on her back yard. She watched as the sun rose, and silenced her phone after only one alarm buzz. Once again compelled to reach for a card, she scooted to the side of her bed. She nervously picked the leftmost card, a 5 of hearts. She turned it over and saw that it read...
