It seemed to be an awfully long wait until Veronica turned up. She worked as a personal assistant for a company that traded grain. She had only started there recently. Previously she had worked as the office manager for her ex's plumbing firm.
It was 6pm by the time the doorbell rang. Nervously I opened the door and let her in.
"Hello. You must be Danielle. I'm Veronica. Where's Dan?"
I shut and locked the door behind her. "Take a seat Veronica. I need to explain something" I pointed to the couch. She gave me a condescending smile but went and sat down where I had indicated. I suddenly felt very nervous. I blurted out in my little girl voice "I'm Dan"
Veronica looked at me. She obviously didn't believe me. I'm your brother Dan. I have accidently turned myself into a little girl"
She looked into my eyes closely. Then burst out laughing. "I don't know who you are little girl but one thing I do know is that you are not my big brother" She got up and walked down towards my bedroom. She called out "Dan, I don't know what you are up to but come out and tell me who this cute little girl is" She systematically checked all the rooms "This is no longer funny Dan, Where are you?"
I called out "Veronica Margaret Farling or should I say 'Pipsqueak' I am your brother. And yes I don't think it is funny either"
"How do you know my names little girl?"
"Because I'm your brother. Ask me a question only Dan would know"
"Ok. ........... Who did Dan set me up on a date with 3 weeks ago?"
"That would be Tony one of my colleagues at Martin West. Tony Holdren he took you out to dinner at Marino's. I know he tried to set up another date but you declined"
"Where did I go on my honeymoon?"
"I didn't know you had a honeymoon. Max had a big job and couldn't spare the time. You did go to New Zealand about a year later, maybe that would qualify as a late honeymoon"
She looked at me more carefully "How the hell did you end up as a little girl and a Ranga as well!" She burst out laughing. She sat down on the couch in a fit of laughter. "My big tough brother is now a cute little girl!"
I could feel myself blushing. I didn't feel that my situation was funny.
Eventually she got her laughter under control. "So Danielle, can you explain how this happened?"
"I found this ring" I showed the too big ring on my finger "I put it on and this happened" I pointed at myself. "It's a type of wishing ring. If the internet is right I'm stuck like this for 7 days"
"Show me the ring"
"Be careful with it. The wish I made didn't exactly turn out as I wanted" I held the ring in my hand and showed her the Latin inscription. "I translated it" and showed her what I had written out.
She read out the note "Behold the Ring of Power. Place it on your finger and raise your hand to the heavens. As you command, so it shall be, but know that this fate cannot be undone for 7 days" She looked at me "So how did this happen?"
I was embarrassed but had to tell her the truth "I was curious about the other side. I asked to be a pretty girl"
She chuckled "And you certainly are. Look who's the pipsqueak now"
