“How old did you say this building was?” Daniel asked Mark. The two friends had been practically inseparable since childhood. They were neighbors growing up, went to the same schools, were roommates all through college and grad school, graduated college at the same time, had been on the same sports teams together, and had often referred to each other more as brothers despite not being related at all. Daniel had just been hired to be a new doctor at a local clinic, and Mark was recently promoted to becoming the head baseball coach for the high school after the previous head coach retired. The two men were currently single at the moment and, wanting to live in a nicer place than their college apartments, were searching for a nice, large apartment together when they finally found an ad for this newly refurbished building. They immediately emailed the landlord, toured the various apartments, and signed a lease right then. They were now getting the keys to check out their apartment before fetching their old stuff from storage.
The twenty-eight-year-old Mark said, “I think this building is as old as the city.” He ran a hand through his thick black hair. “It could be even older.”
The building did not look its age. This apartment complex must have been well taken care of over the past century or so. It was advertised as being newly renovated with plenty of available apartments for rent at an impressively low amount of money compared to other apartments of similar quality. There were probably five to seven stories of maybe four to six decently sized apartments on each floor. The building wasn’t massive, but high quality seemed to radiate off of the building.
“So, do you want to go in or keep staring at it?” Daniel asked.
“Let’s talk to the landlord,” Mark said with a smile. “I can’t wait to get the keys for our new place and check it out.”
