Tad, Jen, and Claire were still eating dinner back at the Decker household. It had been fairly quiet for the past few minutes, as everyone seemed to just be focusing on their food. It wasn’t until Tad said something that the ice was finally broken.
“So I heard something about an important City Council meeting today at school,” Tad said. “Have you and Claire heard anything about it Mom?”
Jen thought for a second before saying, “I don’t believe I have.”
“I did,” Claire said. “My friend and co-worker Olivia mentioned something about it when we were on our lunch break. Didn’t hear what it was about though.”
“I don’t think anyone knows,” Tad admitted. “That’s why everyone is talking about it.”
“Well, I guess we’ll have to wait until it happens to know what it’s about,” Jen said.
As Tad finished his steak, he picked up his plate and silverware off the table and put them in the sink before washing them and putting them away.
“Thanks for dinner Mom,” he said. “I’m going up to my room.” He left the kitchen and walked upstairs to his room, closing the door behind him.
“So it’s just us now,” Claire said, leaning over and nuzzling Jen affectionately.
