Chad quickly grabbed his stuff, while an irritated Karl waited on his bicycle. The moment Chad reached the edge of his driveway, Karl took off pedaling. He shouted over his shoulder, "Try to keep up."
Chad sprinted after him. Karl was sweating, and he was sure Chad was at least a block behind, but he could hear Chad's heavy panting. He glanced over his shoulder, and saw Chad only about 10 feet behind still carrying both backpacks. Chad's tongue was impossibly long hanging out his mouth and slapping his cheek as he ran. Karl snickered. He hadn't change Chad completely human. He had thought of a few ways to use Chad's long wet tongue, and decided a mostly human Chad could provide the same services with the same tongue. Karl knew that Chad had run 100 yards for a touchdown during the Season, so maybe he really was this fast already, but maybe Karl had left some other dog abilities and attributes that he hadn't intended or considered.
Karl slowed his bike, and Chad came up to within a foot behind him walking fast and still panting. His panting became more regular, and finally became normal breathing with his tongue not lolling out. He looked normal, but Karl felt something was wrong about Chad, he just couldn't figure it out.
They arrived at the school.
"You kept up, Chad. Good boy! I'm surprised you were able to," remarked Karl.
"No sweat," replied Chad.
That was it. No sweat. Chad's shirt was dry. He had been running hard, and he wasn't sweating at all.
"Take your jacket off, Chad," Karl said. Chad obliged. No sweat stains under his arms. "Turn around, Chad," Karl ordered, Chad spun around. No sweat stains on his back where the jacket and two backpacks had been.
"You're not sweating," noted Karl.
"I'm not?" replied Chad. He wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not. He felt normal.
Karl thought about Chad in the athletic department. If he didn't sweat while working out, running or in the sauna, someone would notice. Karl would have to make some adjustments with his tablet before then.
He asked, "When do you go to the gym?"
"Huh?"
"Which period?"
"Oh, I've got it 5th period, right after lunch, and then last period is study hall, but I usually am in the gym working out. Unless you want me to-"
"No, that's fine, Chad, I should be able to make you sweat during lunch," said Karl, "Now go to class, Chad."
"Yes, Master," Chad said, but before he left he turned, and leaned toward Karl's crotch where he straddle his bike and deeply inhaled.
"Oh, Chad, no, boy. No sniffing crotches or butts at school. Uh, no sniffing people at school. Understand?"
"Yes, sir," Chad said sadly. With his shoulders slightly slumped, he stalked off to class.
Karl rolled his eyes. What was he thinking turning Chad back? Oh, yeah, the boarding fee was $35 a day, and it was adding up. Karl headed to class. He had an exam in history, and English, and coach was going to make him tryout for the Presidential Fitness Award today. He'd worry about Chad later.
