Jess was tired. For her, there was nothing to do. She had no job, no money, nothing. All she did at home was sleep, eat, look at her laptop, eat, sleep. Several months of that exact routine. This was her second gap year, a gap year that she didn't want, but had anyway. Being in a small town didn't really help her find any jobs, and knowing that the townsfolk were picky didn't help things either. At 20 years of age, she thought that she would be in university, learning about the topics she loved as a kid, or bar crawling with the friends that she had come to know. Sadly, knowing that she had very little money, as well as no work experience, it was unlikely that she would even be near a university. Jess had been lying on her bed for ages, moping about her broken dreams, she had to do something. She stumbled out of bed and walked slowly to the kitchen. She noticed that there was something on the kitchen counter. A newspaper. A newspaper opened up to the Jobs/Volunteers section. Jess knew that her mother would do something like this to force her to get a job. She was just about to roll her eyes and walk away until she saw one ad in the newspaper.
“*Test Subjects Wanted* - For Medical Research, reimbursement dependant on study selected for you and time taken to complete. Please bring ad to 1313 Forandring Street.”
This was her only hope. Sure, it wasn't really a job and it didn't have any pay at all, but at least she would do something with her life. "That's it!" Jess thought "Tomorrow, I'm going to Forandring Street, bringing that ad and doing something. That's all I need to do. Something worthwhile".
TOMORROW - 11:56 am
Jess wanted to be early. She knew if she didn't get up early, she wouldn't get up at all. She finally reached 1313 Forandring Street, with the (now-crumpled-up) newspaper advert. She took a deep breath and opened the door...
