In the morning, John was up before 5 am with his morning workout, while his wife snored noisily in bed. He had so many ideas on what to do with the Chronivac, but he was afraid. Before he'd gone to bed, he had read through the list of warnings and disclosures. So he decided to start slow. Maybe he would increase Amanda's metabolism, so she would lose that extra weight quickly? And maybe he'd adjust his DNA, so he wasn't going bald? But there could be unexpected side effects from changing specific bodily feature. The manual had recommended trying small changes over 1 week to 1 month periods. Still he didn't want it take that long.
Then John remembered his students. He could experiment with the Chronivac on his students before trying it out on his family, and he could make big changes over a shorter time, and they would not be aware of anything. He grinned. He left a note at his place at the kitchen table, and headed to the school with his Chronivac. Today was going to be very special. He was only an assistant coach, and shared his office. He had just set up, when his office mate showed up.
"Hey, John, you're early," Earl said.
"Hey, Earl, I have some stuff to get ready for my morning classes, but I thought you didn't have any classes until afternoon? What brings you in early?"
"Heh, heh, you caught me. Head coach wants me to spy on you to see whether to renew your contract for next year," Earl said.
John bit his lip. He really wanted to try out the Chronivac today He saw the display read, "TWO SUBJECTS". He was number one, and that meant Earl was number two. He smacked his lips.
"Say, Earl, you know I've got CPR training this morning, and that old CPR dummy is falling apart."
"You want me to help you duck tape it up again?" Earl asked.
"Something like that," John said pressing the enter key. The Chronivac whirred. As John walked over to Earl, the senior coach's eyes glazed over, and he fell into John's arms. He was now made of plastic, and a lot lighter than he had been. He carried the new and improved CPR dummy out to the pool area. The swim team was required to be CPR certified before they could compete. They'd be here in twenty minutes. So, John would have to set up the Chronivac in the control box, where the press and judges would sit at meets. As each student shared the kiss of life with Earl, they would be modified. He looked at the roster listing the current stats of each swim team member, and the blue pencil stats he had written for their revised status.
