You have almost finished the game when you hear the front door open. You panic at first but realise it's probably just David checking up on you. You pause the game and get up, your legs almost give way due to your previous sitting position, you get pins and needles in your foot.
You practically drag your foot due to the pain from the pins and needles. They numb down just before you exit the room and you walk like normal again.
Your ears pick up on the sound of a stove boiling things. It's the kitchen. Maybe David is cooking something? As you walk into the lounge room you see a woman around her late 30s. She looks at you and smiles, "I've just started making dinner. Should be ready in about an hour."
"Okay," you reply trying to be as little nervous as possible. You're walking back to your room when the woman says, "Oh yeah, Taylor. Can you please take out the rubbish?" For some reason you know that's your name and turn around to grab the rubbish bag.
"Thank you," says the woman who you're already warming up to.
You walk outside to the bins at the side of the house. It feels weird listening to a parent again, at least in this sense. But it also feels natural, it brings back nostalgia.
You head back into the house and into your room again. You can't help but wonder where David is, or if he's even aware of what's happened. You're also wondering where your 'dad' may be. Suddenly memories flood in. Your 'father' was an oil platform worker and died during an explosion last year. A tear rolls down your cheek. The memory feels close to your heart despite never actually meeting him. You only have the memories.
You sigh and look over to the paused game. You head back over to it and start playing again. That memory still ringing through your head.
