"… We're going to need to limit your maximum and minimum durations for a while. Any transformation you initiate is going to have to last for at least a week, and no more than a month. Moreover, you won't be able to change the same target again until after the minimum time has passed. This was deemed appropriate given you seem to have completely overlooked how important that setting is, as you've just left it on permanent this whole time, though that's hardly the only function you've neglected with given you've been using the simplest tool with the most unpredictable results as opposed to the direct customization systems."
Jeff blinked. "That's... Reasonable... I half expected you'd..." Jeff trailed off, trying to think of all the ways they could have changed him.
Archie waved it off. "Its one part safety net, one part making sure you're willing to be stuck with your results before you commit to them. Its a suitable limitation for one experimenting recklessly," this assistant said, "the limitation will probably be lifted if you use it on yourself a few times without calling us up like this. Just remain calm, think things through before you act, and if you screw up, try to bear with it till the time expires... Have a great day."
The assistant suddenly blipped out, apparently disengaged for the moment. Jeff couldn't help but feel like he'd been scolded by a reasonable father figure... Then again, this was a corporate entity, its not like they gain anything by being excessively cruel or excessively forgiving, but they gain a lot if they at least sound reasonable.
With a sigh, Jeff looked at the chronivac and pondered if he wanted to actually attempt to lift the limitation the way suggested. He could do a few minor changes to himself that wouldn't hinder his daily life, things like his sex, skin colour... Maybe a tail and fur... He lightly slapped himself as he realized those last two weren't exactly minor, even if they'd be mostly harmless... Then again, he thought turning his mother into a slug would be harmless, so for all he knew his mind could become that of some loyal house pet.
"... What am I willing to spend a week stuck as?" Jeff asked himself.
