Lissi looked through her cards, and decided to play a card on herself. She put down a card labeled "BODY: Aviar".
Lissi read the explanation aloud: "When this card is played on someone, that person's speed, agility, and sight increase in power. The person's strength is slightly lowered. The person can move in any direction on the board."
"Doesn't sound too bad," commented Ryan. "I notice that's a picture of a bird of some sort on the card."
"Yes, I know," said Lissi, watching her token change into a model of a bird. She felt something in her hand, and looked. Her fingers were melding together, and fine hairs, red like her hair, were spontaneously sprouting from them. The hairs branched apart as they grew, looking more like feathers every second.
Lissi's feet turned hard, and her toes grew longer as the rest of her foot grew shorter. Her legs shortened suddenly, so that her head was only table height. A large strip of flesh grew, connecting the side of her chest to her hands. Her fingers had fused together; her head was changing shape to resemble that of a bird. Her hair shortened and turned to feathers like those that covered the rest of her body.
Before half a minute had passed, Lissi was a large red bird. She flapped her wings and landed smoothly on the chair.
"I can see that the card worked on Lissi's body," said Dina. "But can she still think?"
Lissi moved her head up and down rapidly, in a caricature of nodding.
"Well, then," said Bob. Are you going to roll the dice?
Lissi grabbed the dice with her talons, flew half a metre up, and dropped them onto the table. Her token moved towards Ryan's token like Lissi intended it to.
Lissi suddenly remembered a card she was holding. She picked it up, and dropped it down, playing it on Mary.
Mary read aloud: "MISCELLANEOUS: Restore. The person whom this is played on returns to his or her normal state. Thank you, Lissi, I'm about sick of this. Toby, come over here and make sure I don't fall over."
Toby, unable to resist had he wanted to, crawled towards Mary, feet still in his mouth. He looked quite angry, but in his condition he could not stop this humiliation.
Mary's legs and arms gradually reappeared, and within a minute, she was back to her normal self. She looked down at Toby on the ground.
"I think you've had punishment enough, don't you?" she asked Toby, smiling.
Toby tried to nod, but his position was awkard and he fell over backwards.
Still looking happy, she said, "Stand up properly, Toby."
Toby immediately stood up. "Thank you Mary, I'm really sorry about that pushbike card, I just needed to get the map."
"Oh, really? Well, we can still boss you around until your next turn, so sit down in that chair and don't get up."
"Unfair!" he complained, but to no avail. "You can be damn annoying sometimes, Mary. Whose turn is it?"
Bob, the only person who hadn't had a turn yet, reached for the dice.
