In the next round, the players neared each other. Dina and Ryan had not played their cards because they didn't want to waste them. Bob, Mary, and Toby were only 7 squares away from Dina, Ryan, and Lissi. But as Bob passed the dice to Mary, the curse on Toby wore off. Seizing his chance to stop the group from winning, he told Mary to move away from the others as fast as she could.
"No! We're that close! Why do you want us to lose?" cried Mary, as she was forced to roll the dice and move away from the two centaurs at high speed.
"I'd just be interested to see what happened, that's all," said Toby, smiling. "Give the dice to Dina".
Dina rolled the dice and moved towards Mary again, but suddenly her token stopped midway. She looked down at the display and let out a moan.
"You have been caught by a gang of 3 poachers! Do you want to 1) flee 2) fight?" Dina was worried that running away might stop her from reaching Mary, so she decided to fight.
Dina suddenly stood on her hind legs and kicked into empty air, her body being moved by some invisible force.
"You attack the poachers! One poacher is hit in the head and dies! One poacher is trapped under your hooves! The other poacher pulls out a rifle! Do you wish to 1) flee 2) fight?"
Dina considered for a moment. She asked Mary, "Can I see the rule book?" Mary gave Dina the rule book. Dina looked through. "Good," she said. "I can use curses on these enemies. Let's try." Dina placed down a card, and read aloud its description.
"CURSE: Freeze. The victim's body and mind stop working for one turn. The victim shall be unaware of any changes that happen to him or her while this curse is active. The curse lasts for one round." The display changed as she put this down.
"You use a curse on a poacher! The poacher's body starts to slow down. The poacher shoots you in the leg! Your speed is lowered 4 times. The poacher freezes! The other poacher runs for it!"
Dina immediately staggered, noticing that her foreleg had a slight gap in it, with blood going everywhere. The bleeding was already stopping, but Dina knew that she wouldn't be able to move far like this. She suddenly had an idea. She played her last card on Mary.
Mary was angry. "Dina, why did you curse me? I've already got enough to worry about with Toby... oh."
Toby looked down and read the card aloud. "'CURSE: Subservience. The person who plays this card can order the victim to do whatever he or she pleases and nobody can prevent the victim from being forced to do so. The curse lasts until a curse remover is played on it.' So, you have a second master, Mary."
Dina shook her head. "No, Toby. Mary has to do whatever I say to, and you can't stop her from doing it. So Mary, don't do anything Toby says to unless you want to."
Mary smiled. "Oh, thank you, Dina." She shook Toby off her back.
"Well, maybe you are going to move back," said Toby, angry. "But Ryan may have to use the last card before you can win."
Ryan realised that he did have the last card. He swallowed nervously and picked up the dice.
