It had been an early morning. Heather had insisted that they get an early start on exploring today. Melissa didn't really understand the point because it looked like they were going to be underground the whole time anyway. Still, she refused to make it a big deal, especially on her first day. Heather and her had set out bringing limited supplies but a lot of flashlights and batteries.
The entrance to this unexplored section was a trap door that lead to a long ever descending hall way. There were torches on the wall but they had long since ceased to be use able. The pair ventured down the hall stopping to examine various pictographs along the way. As the hall went the walls and ceiling got taller and wider until there was more than enough room for the two to walk side by side.
After an hour of steady progress, Heather looked up. "Hey," She started. "I think that's a doorway coming up." Sure enough, within the next few meters were two big statues on each side of an entrance to a large room. The statue on the left depicted some sort of snake creature and the right was of a large cat.
"Are you seeing these?" Melissa questioned. "These statues are magnificent." She stepped up to the left statue to get a better look.
"Yeah, they sure are intense." Heather retorted. "I wonder what their purpose was. Most likely it was to ward off unwanted intruders, like ourselves."
The moment the women stepped into the room there was a loud WHOOOSH of air and a rumble of stone. The torches along the sides of the room jumped to life. Fire lit up the room to reveal two tables on either end of the room. Each table had multiple tools and devices scattered across them. There were pictographs on every wall but behind the tables were the snake creature and large cat from the entrance.
"Wow. I think we found a ritual room." Heather began. "Don't touch anything until we get a good idea of what they did here. Not to mention booby traps."
