Lynne dragged herself into the lunchroom. It had been a god awful morning for the teen, one that saw her land in detention and discover that her sister that she idolized, was a bit of a teachers pet.
After creating a new principal (one that Lynne clearly remembered from her time) Gloria had asked that she apologize to Mr. Harris.
"Derrick is kind of like family," Gloria had stated. "It really wasn't very nice of you to talk to him like that or to freak out Ms. Dean."
Lynne had been flabergasted by this. The Gloria she knew was a strong, independent woman. A woman who, while respectful, spoke her mind. The girl she was now begining to know seemed more interested in pleasing authority figures. For a fun loving prankster such as herself, Gloria's cautious attitude made her a stick in the mud.
Then there was Glorias magic. While nothing compared to what she would be in the future, Gloria possessed more power than she realized. Lynne had been under the impression Gloria did not truely begin to show her magical nature until later in life. Whuke Lynne's power was probably greater right now, she coyld not bring herself to use any of it against her idol.
"This sucks," Lynne grumbled. "I just found out my idol is a dork. This is worse than when I found out Santa wasn't real."
"Hey Lynne wait up!"
Lynne turned to see Tricia and Tommy approach. At first Lynne was happy to see her friends, until she saw the disapproving looks on their faces. "Ugh what is it," she groaned.
Tricia narrowed her eyes as she leaned close to her friend. "Is it true," she whispered. "Did you change the principal into a cheerleader?"
"Maybe," she huffed. "Why who told you?"
"Gloria told us," Tommy said quietly, causing Lynne to groan in frustration. "Babe listen," he said calmly, trying to calm his girlfriend down. "Come on you know you cant be doing that. If Vice Principal Kane was here you never would of done something so reckless."
"True," Lynne sighed. "But Mary Elise isn't here. Shes at Dartmouth. And I don't like the fact my so called sister is ratting me out to my boyfriend and my best friend."
Tommy and Tricia paused as they looked at the angry teen. They had rarely seen Lynne this angry. "Lynne shes just worried about you," Tricia said. "We all are. I know your beating yourself up over this."
Lynne said nothing as she now walked with Tommy and Tricia. Tommy waved goodbye as he went to join some athletes at a table while Tricia and Lynne continued. As they approached Lynne grit her teeth as she could see Gloria and her friends waiting for them. "Seriously," she hissed. "We gotta sit with them too?"
"Where else you going to sit," Tricia asked as she pulled up a chair next to Sasha and Jackie. Lynne could only glower at the group of freshmen she had known her life. Fourteen years from now this group of girls would be some of the coolest people she would know, right now...they were just a bunch of geeks.
"Hey Lynne like what you doing?"
Lynne turned to see Mandy waving to her. "Like come on over here," the popular upperclassman said. "Like why would you want to sit with the dork patrol."
Lynne turned from Mandy to Gloria, a smug smirk plastered on her face. "Your right Mandy," she smirked, staring directly at Gloria. "Why the hell would I want to sit with these losers."
A look of pain crossed Glorias face as Lynne made her way towards the popular table. "Hey Glo you okay," Jackie asked.
Gloria nodded as she now looked at her little sister. "Im okay," she lied. "After all its just words."
Lynne smiled as she now began to fit in with the popular girls. For the first time since coming back to high school she felt like herself. Glancing over at her unpopular sister and her friends, an impish thought began to cross her mind.
"You may have put me in detention for the first time in my life sis," she thought devilishly. "But trust me, I'll get the last laugh." Lynne now happily began talking with Glorias bullies, hoping to perform an epic prank on Gloria and her friends.
