Nellie hadn't really thought she'd be going all the way to Lyre so soon. She was planning on spending some time at Skull Island when Nessa called her for a favor. A friend of hers wanted some 'defossilized fossils' for a special project. It sounded like this regressive hypersexuality thing that was such a hotspot for politicians. But considering it would involve an expenses-free trip to Lyre, Nellie wasn't about to pass up.
Nellie was a bit surprised that the friend of Nessa turned out to be Tyra Wrex, formerly Effie Wilcox, who was making quite a name for herself in the adult entertainment industries these days. It had also been a pleasant surprise when Tyra invited her to a trip to the famous Cave Spa for a dip in the hot springs. Nellie wasn't about to pass up that opportunity. The hot springs would be more pleasant than the cold lake waters in Scotland.
But Nellie wasn't the only Dinotopian that Tyra had invited to the hot springs. Nellie was aware that pleasiosaurs like the Cryptoclidus were not true dinosaurs and were more distantly related to them. But evidently, the Dimetrodon that Elizabeth had become were not even remotely related and she mostly counted as a Dinotopian in that she was a recreated prehistoric Animalian. Not that Elizabeth, or Lizzie now, was bad to look at. She was a bright emerald green, asides from the yellow underside of her jaw and the orange edges on the sail on her back. And she had a very pleasing curvy figure which was shown off more by the bikini she was currently wearing.
"So, how did ye manage to get invited here?" asked Nellie.
Lizzie shrugged and said, "Well, I started working at the Meat Market after I converted and I met Tyra there. She invited me to be part of her project..."
"I was mostly meanin' how did ye get invited to be in Project Dinotopia," said Nellie.
"Oh, that," said Lizzie, "Well, you heard about the Storm from Nowhere, right?"
"Aye, not as bad as the hurricane in North Carolina though," said Nellie.
"Fortunately no," said Lizzie, "I was going home from the library there when that storm hit and I had to take shelter in a hotel. And it just happened to be the same hotel that Sophie and Roland were staying at."
"The Pterodactyl pair?" asked Nellie. Lizzie nodded. "Huh, that was a stroke o' luck for ye."
"Yes, I was wanting to join Animalia to have my painkiller addiction cured, but I couldn't afford to travel and I wasn't sure if I could get into Project Phoenix," said Lizzie.
"So they managed ta get ye inta Project Dinotopia?" asked Nellie.
"They were looking for a volunteer to become a Dimetrodon grandis and I thought there were worst creatures that I could be," said Lizzie, thinking back to her conversion.
==========
Elizabeth was a pretty old woman, old enough to remember when Hoover was a household name. And that didn't mean the vacuum cleaner. She had been getting bad stiffness and soreness in her old age so she had gotten onto painkillers for that. Unfortunately, Oxycontin was too addictive an opioid for her own good and in the long run, it was making her health worse. She was very glad to get the chance to both heal herself and get a new chance at life.
Now, being a librarian, she knew how important research was. And it seemed like the most prudent thing to research the prehistoric beast she'll be soon becoming. There was quite a bit about the Dimetrodon that people made mistakes about. Namely that it was a dinosaur from the Triassic period. In actuality, Dimetrodon existed some 40 million years before the Mesozoid era even began and barely fit into the category of mammals. Dimetrodon was a member of the synapsid family, a group of prehistoric animals that would eventually evolve into the first mammals. Technically speaking, Elizabeth would be rewinding her evolution straight back to her pre-mammalian state, though it was unlikely that Dimetrodon was a direct ancestor of humans.
Then there was the large sale on its back that Dimetrodon was so famous for. There was a bit of debate whether or not the sail was used for thermal regulation. It was just as likely that it was meant for courtship. Either way, Elizabeth will need to adjust to having on her back. She had already heard about a woman who had become a
