Jake saw the light start to move through the cracks in the toy chest. It... no he, he was starting to lose his mind. It had been a month since he became a doll. Every day was brutal. Lizzy would take him out, he'd "play" something with her, then he'd be placed back in the chest. As a doll, he couldn't sleep. Every night he was forced to stare at the wood for hours on end.
At first he liked it better than Lizzy's girly talk, but as days turned to weeks, Jake started to crave any human contact. Some days Lizzy didn't play with him and he would mentally cry out for any stimulation. Over time he started to notice that others were using the camera now and then, but none were aware but him.
From the glimpses he's seen walking by in the hallway and the few voices he's heard, Jake deduced that Luke was a grown woman, his father was an infant, and his mother was a mystery, as Jake hasn't heard a thing. Lizzy's mother was now "Lucy" and his father Roger was living life again. Jake figured if Lizzy changed then he might be thrown out so he was somewhat grateful.
The scariest part for Jake was that the longer he was like this, the more he thought of himself as a doll. Sometimes he thought of himself as an it. Sometimes he'll go a full day calling himself it and Lizzy "owner", and he won't even notice.
It was a month since he changed and Jake was sitting at the tea table. Lizzy was in the other room. She came back with the older, female Luke.
"Now sweetie, try to be gentle okay?" Luke the mother said.
"I will!" Said Lizzy. That's when Jake's hope shot up, as Lizzy was holding the camera. She walked over to Jake and held the camera in a selfie position.
"Say cheese!" Lizzy said as she snapped the pic.
