Kyle took another glance at Ally's room. If he made Amy do anything dumb, she was bound to notice, which probably wasn't ideal. On the other hand, his mother was totally out of it. He decided to play it safe.
"Hey Ally, what are your plans for the weekend?" he hollered.
"Why do you care dork?" she hadn't even bothered to open the door.
"No reason, was just thinking we could go to the movies maybe." It wasn't Kyle's best lie, but it was the only thing he could think of.
"Ugh, hard pass. Besides, I'm hanging out with Duke on Saturday." Kyle could just imagine his sister's eyes rolling.
Well, Kyle didn't have any plans for Saturday. He could wait til then. "Amy, what are you doing on Saturday?"
"Cleaning, chores, so much work needs to get done around the house." His mother sounded like a depressed robot.
Kyle's voice dropped to a whisper, trying to not let Ally hear. "Amy, you need to relax. Saturday afternoon, you will ask me to hypnotize you. Being hypnotized will be fun and enjoyable, and should be a nice stress-reliever. Do you understand?"
"Yes," replied Amy. "This Saturday you will hypnotize me, and I will enjoy it."
"Okay, now wake up."
Amy blinked. Had she zoned out for a second? She sighed, and went to bed.
As she tried to fall asleep, she wondered what had happened. It was almost as if she had been hypnotized. She softly laughed at the idea, and rolled over in her bed.
Still, as the week progressed, the idea wouldn't leave her head. What would being hypnotized feel like? She started having daydreams about it. It would be nice to relax, and forget about all of her responsibilities. Amy imagined a stage magician, convincing her that the sky was brown. It was utterly ridiculous, yet that ridiculousness had a certain, forbidden appeal to it.
Once the weekend arrived, Amy really wanted to try it out. Yes, she had chores, but those could wait. After Ally had left to hang out with her friends, Amy couldn't take it any more. She dimly recalled Kyle having an interest in this sort of thing. Seeing no other alternative, she entered his room. It seemed like Kyle had been waiting for her.
"Um... this might sound odd, but I was wondering if you could, um, try to hypnotize me."
Kyle flashed her a smile. "I thought you'd never ask." Amy experienced a split second of confusion and euphoria, before succumbing to the coin's magic. She sat on the floor, staring up at her son.
Kyle smiled. He had his mother all to himself, and the hypnotic suggestion had worked like a charm.
