"Wait a minute, there was a load of wierd crap down in that basement. Maybe I can find something else to help restore you all"
Laura couldn't just give up on her friends like that. Maybe they were ok with what they had become, but only because the owner had messed with their minds as well as their bodies to make them more obedient pets. And anyway, it wasn't practical for them to live as human animals in the real world.
"Fine *ook* go and look if you think it will help" Sophie shrugged.
Laura searched the basement for what felt like an age. There were plenty of crystals - no way was she touching those - a few books she couldn't hope to understand and various other mysterious looking trinkets but nothing that gave her much hope of reversing the spells her friends were under. It was getting late, so she decided it was better to call off the search for now and try again the next day.
"Sorry guys" Laura announced as she arrived back in the storeroom "I couldn't find anything but maybe if we..."
She stopped in her tracks as she was greeted not by her friends but the extremely unwelcome sight of the store owner.
"You missed your friends I'm afraid" he grinned, nodding towards a van driving away outside "They put up quite the fight, but they are being dealt with now. Soon they will have no memory of being human or no wish to ever be anything other than a frog, dog or
monkey. But they will be happy, obedient well loved pets. What's so bad about that?"
Laura was still frozen. She was naked, unarmed and knew what was coming next. The owner laughed at her misfortune.
"I think you will make the best pet of all" he smiled as he looked into her eyes "After all, you are such a beautiful rabbit. And you have always been a rabbit. Why would you ever want to be anything else?"
Laura felt her nose begin twitch almost involuntarily as she fell into a crouching position with her knees together and her fingertips touching the floor. Whiskers began to sprout out on either side of her nose and white fur grew all over her body. A fluffy white tail was suddenly present just above her buttocks and two big, long ears sprung up at the top of her head. But all that was normal because Laura was a rabbit. She had always been a rabbit. Why would she ever want to be anything else?
The store owner clasped his hands together in delight at his latest creation. She looked even better that way than he had imagined. He was tempted to keep her for himself, but she was just too valuable.
"Come on Laura" he ordered as his former foe hopped dutifully behind him out of the shop "You can travel to the auction with me"
