“Shit,” was all Nicolai could say, looking at his companion trapped in some kind of gelatinous cube.
Below Nicolai and Marceline was a transparent cube of thick jelly and suspended in the middle, scarcely able to move, was Dylan.
If he hadn’t grabbed that lucky rope, Nicolai and Marceline would’ve been caught, too.
Although why was there a rope? Nicolai thought. Perhaps this dungeon is a test... and with each failed test we have lost an ally. If that were the case, who is testing us? And why?
Nicolai couldn’t focus on that. First he had to get Marceline to safety. He was strong, but a person and heavy armour could weigh a fellow down, especially when he was only supported by a single rope and his own might. Nicolai carefully swung, lowering the two of them until they were low enough down for him to jump, landing just past the jelly.
Nicolai grinned.
That was a tough one, he thought.
Nicolai rose up tall, releasing Marceline.
“Thanks,” she muttered, feeling a little useless. All she could do was heal. What use was that when she couldn’t stop the powerful curses affecting her friends? She felt like she was a burden, useless and helpless to help her friends. Even here all she could do was watch and hope Nicolai could save the day as usual.
