A few bubbles burbled up from the pool of purple. Then, a more solid bubble. It briefly rose up, growing bigger, before bursting and slopping back into the puddle.
Marceline looked up at Nicolai, worry on her face. But he had no answers for her. All the two could do was watch their friend and hope he could still communicate in some way.
Another bubble rose, filling in...and then another beside it. They rose up, stacked on one another like a snowman of goo. Marcy held her breath in anticipation, frozen still, as if worried a single move might cause the 'DylanJelly' to collapse again.
But it didn’t. Rather, a small mouth opened on the ‘head’ of the slimeman, with two eyes following. They were still purple, but just slightly darker.
“Brffple,” Dylan mumbled, mouth collapsing in on himself as he tried to speak in his new body for the first time. He paused, taking a moment to reconstitute his mouth before speaking again.
“Hey guys.”
“You’re okay!” Marceline cried out, spreading her arms as if for a hug, before realizing she was going to hug a slime. She stood quickly and backed away, mumbling a few more polite things.
“You can move like that?” Nicolai asked, surprised.
With some difficulty, Dylan nodded his head.
“If you give me a little more time, I think I might be able to make myself me again!” he said proudly, feeling like the little slime that could.
It took several minutes - and a few more collapses - but soon Dylan had a full torso formed out of his slimy pool! He looked rather like he had as a human, if a bit chubbier. That was unexpected, probably because he’d stolen some extra slime from the cube he had been trapped in.
“I’ll work on it,” he said softly, patting his belly.
“Then let’s go, if you can!” Nicolai said, looking around.
There only appeared to be one tunnel leaving the cube’s room. And so they took it, wondering what new terror awaited their group.
