"Actually, I'm more tired than hungry. I'll eat in the morning," the dragon said, hoping this would get Shelly to stop trying to feed him live mice.
"Okay, it is getting late. But I've got to eat before I sleep. I don't think I had anything for lunch today," she said as she started making herself some Ramen noodle soup.
The tiny dragon jumped off the table and landed on her shoulder after several wing strokes. Flying came easily, like walking, so it was no trouble at all. All in all, he had enjoyed his time as a dragon so far, even if it was nothing like he expected.
He tried to eat some of her soup, but Shelly shooed him away, still thinking the nonsense about not giving 'people food' to pets. She also made some comment about the case of mice she was sharing the table with. After she got done eating, she went to one of her closets and removed a large bird cage. The little dragon tried to fly away, but she caught him in her hand.
"What do you think you're doing!?" the dragon screeched from the captivity of Shelly's hand. "I'm not staying in a cage!"
"Yes you are! I can't leave a pet out by themselves. They might get in trouble! And besides, the cat might get you otherwise!"
Shelly laughed as she set the cage on her table, next to the small mouse cage. It was a large rectangular bird cage, like one would use for a large parrot. It was fully furnished, as if it had been prepared for him.
"I was thinking about getting a parrot, but I guess I won't be needing that anymore!" Shelly said, without seeming to have any care at all. "Hmm, this should do nicely."
Shelly put him inside and quickly shut the door.
The cage wasn't uncomfortable, per say. Indeed, it was plenty large for something small as him. But it was a cage. It didn't feel good to be locked in a cage by someone he trusted.
Then Shelly threw a mouse in after him.
"There. In case you get hungry overnight," she said.
"Thanks," he said sarcastically, watching her leave the room to go to bed.
Perfect. Just perfect. Locked in a cage by my own girlfriend. Or 'owner' as she thinks herself now. Great. And with that damned mouse, too, he thought to himself. He climbed up to a platform off the ground, which had a small cushion on it. At least I can sleep comfortably. I sure hope she snaps out of it by morning.
