Alice trudged through knee high swamp water slowly, the mud beneath her feet clinging to her boots as she moved. The muck-covered blonde swatted at a large dragonfly that hovered near her head and pushed forward until she reached the chain link fence. It too was half submerged, and it took her a moment to get the old rusty lock to open.
Alice had been excited at first when she found out that she had inherited a piece of land from a relative she barely knew. But her excitement turned to disappointment when Alice found out exactly what she had gotten: an old factory that had been abandoned for at least twenty years, built on a small rocky stretch of land in a massive swamp.
It had been raining nonstop of late, and today was the first day that had been clear enough to brave the swamp to examine the property. Alice hadn't expected to find most of the rundown building flooded and covered with vines and debris, but it had been abandoned for a long time. Alice walked the length of the fence, occasionally ducking into the main building. Broken machines, old wet crates, a rusted out van, nothing of any real interest or value.
Alice stopped to rest for a moment. She felt tired from fighting against the muddy soil, and the cold water was started to seep into her bones. Her back was stiff and achy. Alice worried for a moment that she may have pulled a muscle. She rubbed her sore back until she felt something that made her pause. A chill went up her spine, but this was one of fear more than cold.
She felt something ... something wrong...
