Alice shuddered, then shook her head. She was just being paranoid, being alone in this creepy place. Of course it was getting to her. But she had to get an idea of if it was worth anything, at least before she got stuck paying taxes on it for no reason.
Plucking up her courage, Alice went inside the main building once more, finding a stairway that led up. It seemed safe enough, and would help her get a view of the entire area. At the top of the stairwell was a landing, as well as a rusty metal walkway that ran the length of the building. Finally able to get an idea of the scale of the place, Alice gingerly made her way across.
However, at the midpoint was more than just rust. Mold had grown in dirt that had remained in some areas, and the floor became slippery. Without warning, Alice's feet gave way under her, and she slipped under the railing and fell off the walkway before she even had a chance to yell.
Instead of the expected hard crash into concrete, Alice felt a dull "splat" as she hit the surface of some liquid. She had fallen into an abandoned vat full of heaven-knows-what. Blinded and having the wind knocked out of her, Alice thrashed around as she sank, trying desperately to find a way out. Eventually, her entire body was submerged.
After what felt like an eternity, Alice's muck-covered hand reached out from the vat and grabbed the ladder rungs on one side. Hauling herself up, she managed to roll herself onto a platform next to the vat, gasping desperately for air. Covered in strange gunk, Alice was barely recognizable as human.
