Of course he'd go straight to the room. Vincent could tell Skylar about the opportunity later.
Quickly he made his way to the room, walking past a row of lecture halls, entering one building, and entering the third room on the right. The normally level headed and patient student was overridden with stress that he hadn't even stopped to think. The flyer never said what kind of project he would volunteer for.
He didn't quite care as he entered the room. However, lining the instructor's new desk in the corner was sports paraphernalia, which surprised Vincent. He didn't expect an instructor seemingly following sports to join the school's staff, especially considering the lack of a sports program.
That is what Vincent thought.
Behind the desk, was a man, surprisingly very young, facing the board that wore a polo tucked into khakis. Vincent was also surprised by the man's musculature — the man's body showed evidence of athleticism and bled masculinity. He clearly worked out.
By this time, Vincent finally stopped to think. He was intimidated at first, reminded of the jock figures and prep-wannabes he preferred to avoid in high school, as well as his hatred and aversion to sports in general, but driven by his need for a scholarship, he walked forward.
The man turned around, revealing handsome, youthful, masculine features. His eyes were a greenish hazel, which complemented his neat dark blonde hair. At the sight of the skinny boy approaching, he smiled a striking smile. He seemed welcoming. “Hey,” he said in a casual tone that reminded Vincent of an athlete. “What's up?” He extended his hand as Vincent got closer.
“Hi, I'm Vincent” The boy said nervously as he took the other's hand. The smell of the man's cologne filled his nose. It smelled almost like AXE, but it was intoxicating. He zoned out for a moment as he got subtly aroused. Vincent considered himself bisexual, although with a preference to girls, but for some reason he started to feel very… attracted to the masculine scent. He quickly snapped out of his small trance and proceeded with a question. “Are you the new instructor?”
“Absolutely. My name's Carter Phelps, the new professor for nutritional science and the new sports director.” The coach inspected Vincent, the newest candidate for his project. He smiled. “You can just call me Carter though.”
At this, Vincent was taken aback. Sports director? Nutritional science? This guy was definitely no one that Vincent would want to be with otherwise. He restrained himself and his reservations about Carter. “Sorry could you repeat that? I thought this place didn't have a sports program.”
Carter smiled once more. “It didn't. It also didn't have nutritional science as a major or minor. However the college's administration decided to make some changes to the set up of the school, so I'm here now. For example, the fitness center will get an expansion, ETA of the finished product is in two weeks, and I have an office there as well.”
“Huh.” Vincent felt suspicious of the man.
Carter quickly decided to change the topic. “I take it you wanted to volunteer. You saw the flyer?”
“Yeah.” Vincent was hesitant. “What's the project anyway?”
“It's a nutritional science study. I just ask you some questions and observe you and ask you to do a few actions. Nothing too bad, I promise.”
Vincent silently nodded. “And the scholarship?”
“As long as you keep coming in every other day, your tuition and dorm is paid for.” Carter looked up and down at Vincent one more time. “Are you in?”
Vincent let out a quiet sigh. On one hand, he didn't like the type of person Carter appeared to be, although he seemed friendly, unlike the jocks and arrogant student-athletes he resented. On the other hand, he needed the money.
