First, Hide the Wand

added by ctbro 4 years ago O

You match your twin's grin. "Yeah, I guess you could say that." In truth, you were curious about this life. Having a twin would have brought about its own share of pros and cons, but you imagined that sharing a body with a twin had a more extreme set of trials and tribulations. "But... we should hide the wand someplace safe. If it goes missing... we'll really be inseparable."

Landon gulped loudly. "I hadn't thought of that."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound foreboding." You frowned.

"No, no. You are right." He gave in uneasy laugh. "It just needs to be tucked away carefully. The usual spot by..."

"...by our shelf?" You smiled shyly, after realizing you finished Landon's sentence. "Yeah... sounds fine." You quickly state. The hiding spot you both referred to was the ventilation cover into your room. The panel could be removed easily and made an excellent spot to hide objects of value.

Landon and you carefully shuffled back to the wand, having left it on the covers of your bed. It was quickly apparent that one obvious con was not being able to divide tasks between the two of you. Landon could not undo the ventilation cover while you retrieved the wand, or vice versa. Those were two completely separate tasks. While you imagined there were things that you and he could do separately, you figured that you and he were still forced to accomplish most things together, at the same time. You made mental columns for a pros and cons list in your mind, including undividable tasks on the cons side. As the day progressed, you were sure that you would complete the list.

Landon held the want in his hand while you and he walked over to the vent cover on the other side of the room. The cover happened to have not been secured properly. The screws did not hold it on tightly. Since your youth, you had used the vent as a place to hold a small secret stash. In this version of reality, the same seemed to be true for you and Landon. It was easy enough for you and he to pry the vent cover off from over your heads. Landon then placed the wand securely inside, and you both fixed the cover back into place.

"Ugh... dusty." You stare at the grime littering your hand. "That hasn't been opened in a long time."

Landon had a similar expression on his face. "No kidding." He brought his hand towards your pants, but stopped just short of wiping his hand on the left leg of your jeans. "Can we help each other brush off the dust?" He raised his hand so it was in front of your torso.

You looked at him, dumbfounded for a few moments. After some time, it dawned on you what he meant, and you were embarrassed at how long it taken. "Oh, right." You and he awkwardly began slapping and brushing each other's palms. The process was not as effective as either of you had hoped, and you ended up brushing the remainder of the dust onto your jeans.

“Okay, wand stowed securely… check.” Landon nodded to himself. He then stepped sideways, as if to turn around away from the vent, but stopped the movement with his leg partway in the air. He quickly brought his foot back down when your joint body began to lean dangerously towards the side. Landon quickly apologized, “Sorry, I almost tried to move without you again.”

You made a mental note of another con, forced to move in tandem. Shrugging your shoulder, you say, “Nothing to be sorry about. Just don’t get mad at me when I try to run away from you at some point.”

“I would like to see you try that!” Landon smirked back at you.

“Maybe another time.” You laughed lightly. “Shouldn’t we instead look around the house, see if anything is different from what we remember?”

“Yeah, and maybe look through the family albums that mom put together. It might give us some more insight.” Landon stated.

You paused for a moment. Landon suggested a good idea about looking through family photos, one you had not considered. Despite having been the same person not long ago, it was starting to dawn on you that he and you differed in some ways. Or, he and you were starting to differentiate in thoughts, ideas, feelings, and likely other areas too. Landon and you were not the same person any more. “Um… Yeah, good idea. Lets also check out the family photos too.” You also mentally marked ‘brainstorming’ in the pros section of your list, and ‘separate ideas/wants’ in both the pros and cons sections.

Landon and you then carefully turn and walk towards your bedroom door. You felt curiosity and some excitement building inside both of you.
