Just some more settings ... and he was done. Rover hit ENTER and the chronivac did his thing. In order to go to bed - his new bed - he changed in pyjama pants. Then he took the collar and placed it around Edwins neck. "Just to be sure", he mumbled to himself.
He then carefully and gently squeezed the sleeping Edwin on his shoulder and said: "You may sleep in my bed tonight, boy, but only to my feet. Or else you have to stay on the ground." Edwin didn't wake up from this, but he responded in his doze. Like a sleepwalker he moved to the foot end of the bed and curled up, almost like a dog.
Rover grinned and layed down in the bed. It felt wonderful. He was excited for the next day and wondered, what would happen, but he managed to sleep anyhow.
Later that night, Edwin had to go to the bathroom. Still half asleep he stood up, not noticing, that another man slept in his bed or that he wore a collar, not even when he washed his hands. In his doze, he stumbled back to his room and fell in his bed - on the sleeping Rover. Rover experienced for the first time, how it was, when a "dog" disturbs the nighttime sleep. He just mumbled: "Down from the bed, boy, lay down and let me sleep."
Edwins sleeping brain couldn't process that. He just got down and curled up on the floor, not questioning it. Rover even petted him on the head, before he fell asleep again.
