Silent and languid, the jaguar padded into the clearing. His eyes locked on the stranger to his territory. The two cats were similar, though one was one four legs and the other on two. His rosettes were larger than hers, his coat darker and his head rounder. The jaguar easily weighed twice as much as the leopard-woman.
Caution filled them both. The huntress knew she was in his territory and he was more powerful than her, though she was far more cunning and agile. And the jaguar did not know what to make of the stranger who smelled like a cat and had a cat's markings, but stood on two legs.
Slowly, she lowered herself back onto her hands and feet, adopting a stance that made more sense to the male. Her tail raised up high in the air snd flicked the tip, a signal that expressed confidence and friendliness. Only cubs made the signal and only to their mothers, but the leopard-woman could not think of anything else to put the male at ease.
Both cats stared at each other intensely, unmoving save for flicking tails.
