I struggled furiously, trying as much as I could to beat at the pelican’s body from the inside, hoping against hope that my feeble hits might make it puke. My body was puffing and I was losing consciousness quickly as the lack of oxygen hit my brain. Something was burning inside the pit of my stomach.I didn’t want to die. I wanted to live! If only… If only… My head swam. I wish… I…
Something exploded.
My whole body convulsed wildly as something screeched and I hit a wet floor inhaling deeply as I went. I groaned and shuddered as every part of me popped and rubbed, bubbling and cracking. When it finally ended I heard a squawk of indignation before wings flapping away, probably frustrated. I laid on the wet ground of my backyard’s basin breathing the fresh afternoon air, the smell of lilies hitting my nostrils and I sighed. I was alive! I was alive. Nostrils? I opened my eyes in surprise.
