"My neighbor"
I perked my eyebrows. "Your neighbor? I thought you don't have one." He told me his old house sits between two abandoned lots. Their front yard is a wide space of dead grass leading up to the street. As for their backyard, he said it is large. As large as half the cemetery. Beyond that is a forest he isn't allowed to go to.
"There are houses a few blocks away from my house."
"And what are you going to do? Act all cutesy and tell them to go here?"
He wanted to retort but stopped midway. Probably to rethink what he's going to say. "What if that's what I'm going to do? Hypothetically."
"No one would do it. Unless they're a pedophile or something."
Silence brewed between eyes. He thought and I just stared. He's a smart kid. He'd know how to get around this.
"How about possess me?" He said.
"You already said that twice. The answer's the same."
"No but get this. You would possess me but not fully. Like just hide inside me."
"Ew."
"Do you want to get out of this cemetery or not?"
"Okay. Jeez." I scratched the back of my intangible head. "Are you ready kid?"
"I think so."
"Here I go."
My corporeal body floated right through him. Unlike the normal solid stuff, I don't appear in the other side. Instead, I appear in this dark place. Despite the cold looking surroundings, it's surprisingly warm.
"Are you there?" A voice said from everywhere. With every stress, every corner of the place lights up.
"I'm here Henry."
"Woah. I hear you inside my head. Can you see what I'm seeing?"
In front of me was an orb. An apparition that is out of place amongst the endless black. The orb portrays the outside world. Henry was walking towards the cemetery gates.
"I'm passing through the gates now. Are you feeling anything?"
I looked into my heads. When I try to cross the barrier, my hand starts to light up and pang of pain hits my body. I would collapse and find myself floating at a random grave. But now, there's no pain. Only the feeling of warmth around me.
"Everything's fine." And I hope it would continue that way.
Henry continued to walk towards the gate. The cemetery guard looks at him and tips his cap.
"Done seeing your father?"
"Yes Mr. Jeffrey."
"Stay safe on your way home kid. Report says there's a band of marauders around."
"Sure thing."
I could not see it but it seems that Henry smiled. I know because I found myself smiling as well.
When Henry was far away from the cemetery, he called me up.
"You can come out now."
I focused and a gate of light materialized in front of me. I passed through it and found myself out of his body.
Finally, I was free. I am now standing at the glade beyond those damned barrier. I can see the splotches of colors that I can only peer. And it seems that its only a rusted billboard of a library situated uptown.
"Are going to say anything?" Henry asked.
"Yeah. Thanks kid." I said.
"Aww... Your welcome. So are you ready to meet my neighbors?"
"Sure thing."
---
He walked and I floated. He was huffing by the time we reached the hill where we can see the whole neighborhood.
Henry first pointed at the most eastward side of the suburbs. The place is hugged by a forest in the East where a passing river divides into multiple streams.
"That place is where the rich people live. See that brown hosue west of Pencider forest? That's my house."
He panned his arms westward and pointed at the middle. Single story houses dotted with square buildings makes up the area. In the north was the Rocky side of a mountain where stone mills seem to take residence.
"That's Scoville. I used to go in a school over there."
And lastly, he pointed to the west where a long avenue of buildings shine.
"That's the way to uptown and downtown. I'm not allowed to go there since there's cars around."
I chose...
