"So Maaya," Rexie asked. "How do you k NJ owe this kid anyway?"
Maaya glanced at her companion, a small smile spreading across her face. "I babysat for him," she answered. "Or at least I used to before I became a succubus. Believe it or not I actually cared about him. Poor kid has had it rough. Three bouts with cancer and he's only nine. Nine Rexie. No kid should have to go through that."
"Look at you actually caring about someone," Rexie giggled.
Maaya turned narrowing her eyes at the imp. "I'm a demon, not a monster," she said tersely. "Remember we were human. Isn't there someone you cared about before we were given this gift?"
Rexie paused as she thought back on her human life. As Rex the janitor the only person that had mattered was his niece. Rex's sister considered him a loser and wanted nothing to do with him. Even the janitors parents considered him a lost cause. The only one that actually loved him was his 11 year old niece Mia. The girl had loved her uncle unconditionally and in return he showed her all his skills from his computer programming days. The girl said that when she grew up she wanted to work with computers, just like her uncle.
"My niece Mia," Rexie sighed. Maaya raised an eyebrow surprised by Rexies admission. "I had no idea you had any family," she said.
"She was the only one worth a damn," the imp muttered. "The rest of them were just assholes that wanted to do with me. That girl though was special. Cutest little thing and just so innocent. Always saw her doing great things."
"Maybe we can help her," Maaya smiled. Rexie turned, baring her needle like teeth at the succubus. "You do and I'll tear your throat out with my teeth."
Maaya smirked at her companion, before stating she would cause no harm to the child. Despite their demonic nature some semblance of humanity remained within them. For Rexie it meant protecting her niece. For Maaya though it meant trying to help a sick young boy from dying. "Theres the house," Maaya said. "We should probably shift forms though. Dont want to freak the kids parents out." The demons nodded, once more shifting into human form as they knocked on the door. After a moment a tired looking middle aged woman answered, giving the two teens a weak smile. "Hi Maaya so good to see you."
"Hi Mrs. Cortland," Maaya answered. "Hows everything?" Mrs. Cortland sighed heavily as she looked at the two teenage girls.
"We're getting by," she said sadly. "Unfortunately Zack is kind of under the weather. Poor thing had another round of chemo today."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Maaya said sadly. "Missed seeing the little guy. Actually made this in home ec today with my friend Lexie today. He was the first one I could think of to give some too. Know he could use a treat."
Mrs. Cortland smiled as she wiped a tear from her eyes. "Thank you so much Maaya," she sniffed. "You always had such a big heart. I'll take it up to him."
"Was kind of hoping I could if that's okay," she said meekly. Mrs. Cortland paused as she looked the two teens over. She had known Maaya for years and trusted her. She always treated Zack so well when she watched him. Zack had told his mother how much Maaya meant to him, she was the only one that didn't treat the poor kid like a leper. "Okay Maaya," she sighed. "I'm sure Zack would love to see you, it would definitely brighten his spirits. Just please dont take too long. He's really not feeling well today." Maaya nodded as she skirted past Mrs. Cortland with Lexie in tow.
"That was easy," Rexie replied, brushing her platinum blond hair out of her face. "The Cortlands have nothing but nice things to say about me," Maaya stated as they went upstairs. "I've always treated Zack well, which they appreciate. Oh and just to get this off my chest, just like your niece they're off limits to anyone."
"Fair enough," Rexie answered as they reached the boys door. Pushing it open the teen demons eyes went wide as they gazed at the sick boy.
Maaya and Rexie understood why Mrs. Cortland looked so concerned. Zack appeared to have wasted away. The boy appeared to be struggling for breath as he lay in his bed. The latest round of treatment he had undergone had left the boy completely bald with an almost skeletal appearance. As Rexie turned to Maaya she noticed the succubus wipe a stray tear from her cheek. Not wanting to provoke her friend (and understanding the teens feelings) she now remained silent as Maaya approached the boy.
"Hey Zack," she whispered. Zack turned his gaunt face towards Maaya, a small smile spreading across his skeletal face. "Maaya," he said in a rasping voice. "Mom didn't say you were watching me today."
"Kind of a surprise buddy," she sniffed as she took the boys hand. "Wanted to see how you were doing."
"I'm really sick Maaya," he whimpered. "I'm scared. Mom and dad are scared too. I..I dont want to die Maaya but I have to be brave for mom and dad. I know how sad they are."
Maaya could only nod as she felt her throat close. Despite her demonic nature the small part of humanity remaining in her felt so much pity for this boy. Zack had never done anything wrong to anyone. It was unfair that he had to go through this. No kid should have to look death in the face at such a young age. As sad as it sounded Zack was the only person that ever treated Maaya as if she mattered. For that reason and that reason alone she would save him from death.
"I know Zack," she said sadly. "But I dont want you to worry okay. Your going to get better."
"How do you know," he asked weakly.
"I just do," she answered. Smiling she now presented the cake to the boy. "Here I made this for you," she said. Zack smiled weakly as he now tried to sit up. Maaya could see the boy struggling and now assisted him in sitting up. "Here Zack take a bite," she said, cutting off a small bite for him. "Take a bite and I promise you. You'll never be sick ever again."
Zack nodded weakly as he now tried to choke the small bite down. The sick boy choked one the small piece as Maaya rubbed his back, trying to get the piece down. As he finally swallowed he gave Maaya a weak smile before settling back on his bed. "Wow Maaya that tastes really good," he said. Maaya gave the boy a weak smile as she now waited patiently, fortunately she wouldnt have to wait long.
Zacks eyes went wide as the changes began to occur. At first it appeared as if the boy was grimacing in pain as his arms and legs began to lengthen under his sheets. Maaya and Rexie could hear the sound of bones and muscles snapping and growing as the sick boys height increased, making him close to 7 feet tall. Zack then began to paint as if his was thirsty as his muscle size began to increase. Soon a large man built like the Incredible Hulk sat in the boys bed.
As Zack took ragged breaths he gazed at his hands, shocked to see his finger nails slowly grow into claws. As he opened his mouth in shock Maaya and Rexie could see his teeth begin to sharpen into fangs as his mouth protruded slightly. As his transformation completed Zack noticed hair begin to sprout all over his body. Letting out a grunt the boy rolled out of bed, the hair on his body becoming a dark brown fur. Slowly Zack got his feet underneath him turning to face Maaya and Rexie as a large and intimidating wolf man.
"Maaya," he questioned, his voice emanating in a low growl. "What happened to me? I feel...strong. Strong...and healthy!"
Maaya smiled transforming into her succubus form before hugging the giant wolf man tightly. "I cured you Zack," she whispered. "I found a way to cure you by making you into something....stronger."
Zack blinked dumbly with golden brown eyes as he looked at the succubus. "I'm a werewolf," he growled in surprise. "Maaya how is this possible. How am I so strong and not sick?"
"Magic," she whispered. "I couldn't bare to watch you in pain anymore. So I used the cake to cure your cancer and make you stronger than anyone else. Now you'll never be sick again."
Zack blinked before picking the succubus up and squeezing her tightly. "You saved me," he roared in delight. "Maaya you did it. I'm healthy. Now no one will ever tease me about being sick ever again!"
"I know," she sighed. "But you cant stay like this. Your going to have to change back into human form. The good news though is your well now. You never have to worry about doctors again."
Zack nodded as he reverted back into human form. Maaya and Rexie watched as the massive wolf creature shrank back down into a small child of nine once more. As he completed his transformation he blushed slightly, grabbing a nearby blanket to cover his now nude body. "Um I think I need some clothes," he said meekly.
Maaya blushed in embarrassment, turning and handing the young boy a pair of pants and a tshirt. After dressing the two teens turned as they saw Zack smiling at them.
"Maaya," he said. "This is incredible. I'm big and strong and you? Why do you and your friend look this?"
"Also magic," she answered. "And to be honest we need your help. Which means your going to need a codename to protect your identity."
"Like a superhero," the boy said excitedly. Maaya nodded as the boy jumped around excitedly. "Oh I know what about Fenrir."
"Fenrir," Rexie asked.
"Yeah he was the werewolf in the Harry Potter books."
"Perfect," Maaya said as she hugged the boy. As the smiled at his babysitter Maaya could only smile. She had saved this boys life and made him indebted to her. In his new form the boy would do anything to help her. Maaya now hoped that the powerful creature she had created would prove to be a valuable ally to her side.
