Kaisha opened her eyes, the stars were still out and she breafly considered going back to sleep, but she knew the sun would rise eventually and thought it would be best to get up now.
She yawned and pushed her self up and out of the mud pit, letting the water flow down her green scales collecting in her butt which was still half submerged. She scratched under her arm breaking off pieces of dried mud and yawning again her snout wide opening wider. She stretched her arms hearing the satisfying popping of her bones. Kaishe then stood up and exited the sleeping mud pit yawning a third time.
Kaisha was an alligator, and a well built one at that. Sure she wasn’t the strongest in her tribe. But she was the strongest female. She shivered as she left the warmth of the sleeping mud pit, but didn’t go back in. She had a job to do.
“Morning Kaisha.” Threxx said in a drowse voice.
Threxx was another guard, he got off right when Kaisha got on, so they very rarely had time to talk. But from when they did have time they got along well enough to be called half friends. Threxx began stripping off his armor and handing it to Kaisha to put on.
“Anything interesting last night?” Kaisha asked putting on the rusted pipe shin guards. Threxx shook his head, took off the last off his armor and fell face first into the spot in the mud pit Kaisha just left already snoring. Kaisha rolled her eyes and finished putting on Threxx’s armor.
Kaisha worked the day guard and Threxx worked the night guard. It only made sense for them to wear the same armor so none of it was waisted.
Kaisha put on the last strap and went to the front gate.
As you know in this world clothes are a luxury and symbol of status. As such the armor (if you could call 200 year old rusted scrap metal “armor”) was really really just: shoulder pads, helmet, shin guards, knee pads and nothing else besides some leather straps connecting them. No breast plate for Kaisha since the armor was originally made for a male. Not that she minded in the slightest. There was a loin cloth, but Kaisha usually let Threxx wear it, given he had a tendency to sweat down there. Besides, today seamed pretty warm dispite the initiation cold.
The main sleeping pit was in the middle of town so Kaisha had to walk all the way to the edge of town to get to her post. The town was a bunch of ancient water craft made into houses that the alligators liberated from an otter tribe two generations ago. Now the alligators mostly kept to the warm mud pits at its center, but still used some of the otter’s former homes for recreational reasons. Kaisha left the water area and got to the part of town that was dry most of the time. Kaisha’s direct ancestor was part of the group that lead the attack on the otters. Her grand father was a member of the town guard after him. And then his son. And now Kaisha took up the family post.
She was the first daughter born in her family’s line, aswell as an only child and currently the only female guard at the front gate.
She signaled up to Nox to open the gate for her, he obliged and tossed down her sharpened spear. She only used it for hunting, but still kept it sharp enough to puncture scales as well as fur.
She exited the wooden gate and took her position next to Herothine, who nodded to her. He was looking as tired as Threxx and would probably rotate out with another guard now that Kaisha was here.
Kaisha scanned the grassy hills outside the swamp in the light of twilight. Waiting for any sine of an attack, then the sun finally started rising in earnest and blinded her in the direction she was looking. Kaisha groaned and lowered her helmet preventing further damage to her eyes.
Today was going to be a long day.
