As the wave passed over her hospitalized form Betty at first noticed no change.
She felt cheated. Why does everyone else get new forms when she’s stuck paralyzed in bed?
She started to cry. Then she felt a tingling in her hand. She looked down and saw her fingers growing into claws. The changes must have just been delayed. She felt the same tingling in her spine, soon her spine was fixed completely and she could move again. She sat up on her own for the first time in years feeling her repair spine clicking in satisfaction at being moved for the first time in years. She slid out of bed, feeling the cold floor on her feet and smiled, she kicked the Chair over and stood up to her full hight. Was it just her or was she taller now?
She kept examining her body turning this way and that, stretching and hearing her bones pop, then she noticed something new. A black furry cat tail growing from her spine. She grabbed it hard and felt a jolt of pain letting it go. She shook her head and looked down at her claws as they turned black. Her vision went blurry and she blinked away a few tears. When she opened her eyes everything seamed brighter, more in focus. She rushed to the bathroom, noticing the souls of her feet were now tougher, and saw in her reflection her eyes had changed to those of a cat. They were emerald green with black slits down the middle.
She felt more tingling and opened her mouth and saw her canines getting longer, she now had cat fangs.
Now the change she dreaded. She lost all hearing only for it to come back. Two lumps of hair grew on her head and formed into two black cat ears on top of her head.
She pet her tail a few times and rubbed her ears.
Okay. She had cat ears and tail. Still a small price to pay for use of her body back.
She smiled in the mirror, getting use to her new eyes and teeth.
