In the year 2022 the Earth population had reached over 8 billion people. Sea level rise was threatening low lying communities near the sea. Massive flooding was destroying crops producing famines. A global recession had occurred 2 years prior due to the OPEC members of Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia and forcing Kuwait to join them, halted all oil trade to Europe nations, most of the British commonwealth, and The USA so that their respective spheres of influence could end. This caused oil prices to skyrocket and the economy fell dramatically. Unemployment and inflation where widespread across western nations. Power outages lasting for weeks were common in most of the US. The US, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan were engaged in a proxy war against China in the South China Sea. North Korea finally launched a nuclear missle at South Korea that killed 25,000 people and is expected to kill 10,000 more with radiation. This forced the US to declare war and joined South Korea in an invasion. Multiple species were being threatened as western countries could not enact economic foreign policy on third world countries which turned to threatening ing their ecosystems in the search for natural resources. While all of this was happening America was facing a food crisis when the Midwest faced a combination of severe droughts followed by extensive flooding that was destroying the ability of land to produce crops. Humans were killing themselves and there was no end in sight
