Organata smiled for a minute but it quickly faded to a frown. She laughed a bit before sighed and flipping her hair around. She liked these two, and she felt bad that they had been transformed... but she was freshly back in this dimension with little power. She could gain enough to turn them back to normal but that would waist so much time. So she put on her best poker face and lied through her teeth.
"I'm terribly sorry you two, but I can't change you back." She lied.
"What?!" Megan and Alan screamed. "You just said you could easily change us back!" Megan objected.
"I'm sorry I was hasty." She fibbed. "I... just checked with my magic! The book is a little too twisted to just fully undo."
"Uh huh." Steve said, partially not buying it. He unconsciously started to stand like an annoyed mother with his hands on his hips and a scowl that made even Organata nervous.
"Wait." Megan interrupted. "What do you mean by fully?" She asked.
"Oh! I'm glad you asked!" She replied relieved. "I can't undo the changes, but you guys can eventually undo the changes yourself. I can't affect the books changes, but I CAN affect the book itself."
Organata waved her arms as a light blow glow emitted from her hands. Steve and Megan braced for something to happen and were both grateful when they saw nothing crazy. Back home, however, Alan was staring at the book out of frustration when he saw it begin to glow again. He hid behind the couch, worrying it'd give him a worse change for staring, but when he looked back his eyes widened and his jaw dropped.
The book's cover was no longer in some gibberish language. It was now in English! It read as "The Book of Life Changes" in bright, glowing text. Alan immediately, without turning away from the book, picked up the phone and called his dad. Back at the archives, Megan was in the middle of asking what Organata had done when Steve got the call.
"You're kidding?" He said happily surprised. "Actual English?"
"What Dad?" Megan asked confused.
"We'll be right over!" Steve said before swiftly hanging up. "I assume this is you're doing?" He asked Organata.
"Yes." She replied. "Hopefully now, you'll be able to decipher it and change yourselves back. As a bonus for your troubles, I'll even let you keep it if you want it." She was about to wave her arms again when Steve stopped her.
"Wait!" He cried. "Even if it is in English, we can't use it at all. It jus immediately changes us." He explained.
"What?" She responded surprised. "It shouldn't be doing that unless.... Have you been randomly flipping through the pages?"
Megan eyed her dad annoyed as Steve shifted uncomfortably on the spot. He twirled his long hair and awkwardly laughed. "Um, maybe?"
"Well no wonder you kept changing randomly! The book of life changes has a bit of a will of its own, and it does not appreciate people just flying it around and what not." She sighed. "I have half a mind to leave you like this for your stupidity, but you're lucky I'm so nice. Just carefully read it this time alright?"
"Yes." Steve replied reluctantly.
"Yes ma'am." Megan sighed.
Organata vanished in an instant. Megan and Steve both sighed in relief. They looked at each other and soon smiles spread across their face as they hugged one another.
"We did it daddy!" Megan cheered happily.
"That's right honey." Steve agreed. "We're one step closer to changing reality back to the way it was!"
The two rushed out of the library, eager to get home and undo the damage this magic had caused.
