One of the major focus points of Project Hermaphroditus's IAC exposition is how pregnancies work with hermaphrodites. In essence, it wasn't that dissimilar with pregnancies with fully-female mothers, asides from the male equipment. Though the unique X/Y chromosome of herm DNA did have an interesting way of determining an embryo's birth. Even if both parents were hermaphrodites, that didn't necessarily mean that all their children would also be hermaphrodites. For instance, the Anaconda brood contained single-sexed offspring as well as dual-sexed. Most notable were the only two-headed children among them were each a single sex. Another good example was with Louise's cubs.

Louise had been born a man, but knew that shi was meant to be a woman. Being both male and female didn't bother hir as much as shi was with Buddy and they both loved each other. So after their marriage, Louise wanted to be the one bear children. And after some very enjoyable sex, shi succeeded in getting pregnant. Though like all mothers, Louise learned it wasn't quite as glamorous as it was made out to be. The morning sickness, mood swings, and odd cravings were not something shi enjoyed, nor the constant soreness and ache.
Then came the day hir water broke and shi was rushed to the hospital. Hir fellow hyenas were also there to support hir. "You know, you should really consider yourself lucky," said Akia, "If you were a mundane hyena, you would be having to push out your cubs through your clitoris. And believe me, that is not easy at all. It makes me really glad I have a vagina like a human's."
"I don't (censored) care what you (censored) have! Just get these (censored) things out of me!" snapped Louise. Shi may be an Animalian, but shi was still a placental mammal and didn't make giving birth any easier. Thankfully epidural worked on Animalians or hir swearing would have been far too much for an expecting mother.
Eventually, Louise managed to push out first one than another cub. The first cub was all-female, but the second cub was a hermaphrodite. They both came out fine and were soon suckling at Louise's teats, which had already been vaccinated to keep hir babies from getting a second dose.
"You know, I'm wondering how those two will interact with each other," said Vita.
"What do you mean?" asked Kicheko.
"Well, spotted hyenas are a matriarchal species. Even in their early cubhood, females will dominate males. Same-sexed litters will view each other as rivals and they may try to kill each other," said Vita, "I'm wondering how Robbin will perceive Morgan, as a rival or an underling." Shi was referring to how the pure-female cub was named Robbin.
"They're not wild animals," reminded Gregoria, "They'll have human intellect. What I'm wondering is how she'll feel about being the only girl in an all-herm family."
"Well, that depends on what my own cubs will be," said Buddy.
"I think we can wait a while before we commit to that," said Louise.

With a basic binary sexual gene, the odds are usually 50/50 of what sex the baby is. However, it's clear the herm gene put in new variables for the outcome, which made it harder to predict. And there was no telling what would happen with the self-fertilizing hermaphrodites, though neither Allura nor Rocket seem to be interested in reproducing that way. More answers may be revealed when the wolf pack has been hermaphrodized.
