The Magic Shop

Sean's Discovery

added by scriptboy 18 years ago O

Sean was standing out on the street the following morning. He had his basketball in his hand, and he was shooting hoops on his own, using the basketball hoop that was standing by the curb on the street. It was still early in the morning, and he was hoping that somebody would wake up and play with him.

His big brother, Brandon, was already awake. But, when Brandon came out, he was going to meet up with jenny, his girlfriend. Sean tried to plead with his older brother to shoot some hoops with him, but his girlfriend was waiting and he wanted to meet her for breakfast at a bagel restaurant down the street.

Two other boys, who also lived on the same street, were riding by his house on their bikes, but they weren’t interested in playing basketball. While he was feeling disappointed, Sean still had hope that somebody else in the neighborhood would wake up and come and play basketball with him. Then he remembered the amulet, which his brother had given him the previous day. He decided to run back in the house and to dash in his bedroom. He grabbed the amulet and hung it from his neck, hoping that it would bring him some good luck that day.

When he got back outside, one of the neighbors passed his house, jogging down the sidewalk. Sean realized that more people were getting up, as it was becoming later in the morning.

“I wish someone would wake up right now, who’d have the time to play basketball with me…” he whispered to himself. Unknown to the teenage boy, Mitch was suddenly awakened at that very moment.

Mitch woke up and stumbled into the bathroom to freshen up. As soon as he came out again, he was overcome with an overwhelming urge to go outside. He quickly put on his sneakers, shorts and t-shirt, before he walked out the front door of the house.

Mitch just went for a light jog, as he ran down the sidewalk. As he passed Sean, who was still playing basketball on his own, he waved at him.

“Morning, Mitch…” Sean said to him. “Wanna shoot a few hoops with me?”

“No… I’m just going for a jog right now…” Mitch replied, as he jogged right past him.

“Oh…” Sean said, in a disappointed tone of voice. For the moment he just watched, as Mitch continued to jog down the sidewalk.

“I wish he’d turn around and come over here…” Sean thought to himself. Without realizing it, the amulet started to show a faint, blue glue, when its magic started to have an affect on Mitch.

To Sean’s great surprise, Mitch suddenly turned around and crossed the street, while jogging on the other side of the street, as he slowly made his way back to where Sean was standing, with the basketball in his hand.

Mitch immediately ran straight towards Sean, and he stopped right before him, panting as he had just begun to break out in a sweat.

“What are you doing?” Sean asked him, as he began to wonder why Mitch suddenly jogged back to where he was standing.

“I got the feeling that you wanted me to come back to you…” Mitch replied.

“I did?” Sean wondered out loud.

“Didn’t you tell me to come back?” Mitch asked him in response.

“No…” Sean said, while feeling a little confused.

“Okay, well… I’ll continue my jog around the block. See you later, Sean…” Mitch said, He then turned around and started heading back the other way.

For the moment, Sean just stared at him, wondering what had come over his next door neighbor. Then he thought about it for awhile, and he remembered wishing for Mitch to come back to him. He noticed that Mitch indeed came back, just as he had wished! Was it just a coincidence, or was Mitch doing exactly what Sean had ordered him to do? And why would this start to happen, after he put on the amulet around his neck?

Sean thought about it for the moment, and came to the conclusion that the amulet seemed to give him control over Mitch. Could that be possible? Or was it a coincidence that Mitch turned back, just after he had made his wish? Sean had to think it over, before deciding to try it out once more.
