A Game of Change

Pub Brawlers Are Truly Animals

added by Dr-Birkin 4 years ago A

The winds of magic blew from Ty's slender fingers, knocking aside cups, bowls, and other light articles. The coalesced around a group of three men who had been unfortunate enough to be in the center of his field of view. Like ventilation ducts their body's sucked in the magical breeze, filling with its transformative powers. The changes began, and ended, in an instant.

The first man doubled over in pain as his facial structure reconfigured; his jaw and nose bones stretched out, growing into a rodent's maw. His tanned skin erupted into an even darker coat as fine hairs formed over the entirety of his body. A large bump, presumably a tail, swelled at his lower back while his overall form diminished, shrinking down, down, down until he had disappeared into his own peasant rags. A few seconds later and out popped a fully formed rat.

The next guy was a little luckier. Rather than adopting the features of a filthy rat, his face changed into a softer look. His nose was flatter and smaller, and the hair the sprouted was a pure white. Long, floppy ears replaced his human ones as he too shrunk to a tinier size. The man had become a fluffy little bunny rabbit.

The last man was the most unfortunately of the bunch. He too shrank and transformed, but his features were distinctly non-mammalian. His muscular arms thinned and contorted, merging flat against his torso like a shark's fin. Much the same occurred with his legs as they too melded together, forming a single section with a thin set of dorsal fins. Instead of hair, brilliant rainbow scales spread all over his body. In mere moments he had transformed into some kind of fish, flopping helplessly on the tavern floor.

The whole tavern fell dead silent. While they had tried at least to resist his friends, the brawlers wordlessly departed, some even sprinting from the beer hall. By the end, all that remained were the transformed critters, the bartender, and his barmaid.

"Erm, well, you saved my tavern" the barman said "even if you did scare away the business. In any case, you may stay the night. My treat."

"Excellent! Dinner, a warm bed, and even some snacks!" Steph exclaimed as she swiped the three animals from the ground, making sure to drop the fish into a tankard full of water.

"Wait, where are you going? I have to turn them back, you know!" Ty complained.

"Let her have her fun. It is a game, after all," Aaron said. With one arm around Erica's waist, he tugged the barmaid by the cut of her blouse towards his bedroom. She eagerly obliged.

Ty was at a loss. Steph had gone full into the gluttonous orc persona, while Aaron and Eric were playing their own roles as well. Did nobody else care about finishing their mission? About escaping?
It was at that moment that the bell above the door let of a ring. A new visitor stepped in and judging by the look in their eyes they were here to see Ty and his group.
