Monica opened the door to the apartment and stepped inside.
She felt a bit guilty stepping into his home like this, but she loved the beach and only loves it more when she’s with Damon. Although Monica never truly understood why Damon had an attachment to the beach, she could tell it meant something to him and appreciated that.
Monica quietly looks around the apartment, looking around for Damon when she sees lights coming from the bathroom door. She pauses and knocks softly on the door, no response.
Not wanting to interrupt Damon’s privacy, she knocks again. No response once more. Monica grew worried and felt it within herself to open the door, but she wasn’t prepared to see what was on the other side.
It was Damon sleeping on a bathtub, but a long scaly blue fish tail was in place of his legs.
A scream was ready to emerge out of Monica’s throat, but she quickly covered her mouth just in time. Her thoughts raced in her mind. “Monica, what are you doing? You did not only go inside your boyfriend’s house but now you’re in his bathroom and ready to scream like a banshee while he’s resting, are you crazy?!”.
Monica took a deep breath and relaxed. “That can’t be real. What if it was just a costume?”, she thought to herself. Monica suddenly felt even more guilty, Damon probably really enjoys dressing up as a merman in private and likely didn’t tell her out of embarrassment - it could explain why he was into the beach so much.
Monica later felt calm and warmly smiled at her boyfriend, Damon looked so peaceful while he’s sleeping. If Damon had to keep a secret from her, she was glad it was being in a costume that wouldn’t hurt anybody.
About to leave and contact her boyfriend later, Monica took a closer look at Damon’s tail.
The tail had gills that kept sucking in air, causing his tail to subtly expand and contract the same time Damon took a breath. Monica found that to be a bit odd, but she looked closer and found that Damon’s’ tail had no outline of his feet or any sign of his knees at all. Once his tailfins started to flap daintily on their own - Monica found that the tail wasn’t some fancy costume, it was real.
Her boyfriend was a merman.
A real merman.
Monica’s breaths started to get faster. She suddenly felt as if she had no right seeing him like this. Monica’s thoughts raced faster, “Was Damon a merman the whole time, was this a secret he had always kept from me? But why date me on land, and not a mermaid in the ocean? Should I call the police? No, bad idea. He could be tested and experimented in a lab somewhere. Maybe I should just forget it, but how can I forget my boyfriend being a mythical creature?”. Her mind was just overwhelmed.
“Oh dear, what am I going to do now?”, Monica whispered to herself.
She looked around Damon’s body and found a stone in rainbow-like colors next to the bathtub.
Curious, she picked it up and looked at it in awe.
“What is this?”, she wondered.
Monica took a closer look at the stone, seeing tiny bits of star-shaped particles on it.
“Could this… Grant wishes?”, she whispered.
Monica pondered about this for a moment. It could make sense. The downpour seemed to just disappear not long after Damon left her home. Plus, her boyfriend was a merman right in front of her eyes right now. Her sense of logic was clearly not going to help her out now. At this point, anything was possible.
She looked at Damon’s fishy body once again and turned the stone.
