Jimmy Simpson paid the small token of money for the ring and quickly left the store. He had never been invited to a Halloween party before and was so surprised and happy that a group of guys from school invited him that he wanted to find something to match his mummy costume that he made.
He got back home and started dressing for the party. Jimmy's mom entered his room with a worried look. "Son, those guys are only going to tease and bully you again, please do not go there and get humiliated by them."
Jimmy knew that his mom wanted the best for him but he so wanted to be included by the cool kids at school that he had to try it. And anyway, they were all into Halloween just like Jimmy! He loved dressing up as demons and vampires every Halloween. He figured he could finally fit in with all the cool guys, this time.
His mom warned him once more. "They are not into that stuff. They are all going to dress scantily, they want to just have sex with each other. They aren't into Halloween like you are Jimmy. Trust me."
Jimmy ignored his mom. "Mom, I have to at least try it, come on! This is my one opportunity to be cool! To hang out with the cool guys!" His mom nodded her head and disappointment, and shut the door.
He finished getting ready. Looking at himself in the mirror, he smiled at his costume, made with elaborate wrappings of gauze. He only wore a pair of white boxer briefs, and a pair of white, thin football shorts over the briefs to try to best match the gauze. He also had on white socks and flip-flops to try to match with the costume.
He looked down at the ring he picked up from the costume shop. The seller was pleased to have sold it and sold it to Jimmy for a low price. It was made of what looked like dark granite, with a dark grey outer band and a coal black inner band. It shined in his hand. "Cool." He said.
He pocketed it into his soccer shorts and made the trek to John's house, the school's star football quarterback. John and his football jocks were not very nice to Jimmy, they liked to steal his bike on his rides back home after school and leave it deep in the woods. Jimmy would have to walk home or walk through the woods to get it. But he wanted to be liked by the bullies so he never fought them. "This time, they are ready to be friends! Otherwise they wouldn't have invited me," the naive Jimmy thought.
He could hear loud music playing outside in the backyard. He walked down the driveway and opened the backyard fence gate to get into the party. There, he saw a lot of the cool kids from school. They were all dressed scantily like his mom told him. The girls and guys were dressed like they were at a dance club. The girls wore outfits that made them all look like strippers, and the guys all wore short jeans or their football sliding shorts, and some type of retro T-shirt that was a take on their football uniform. Jimmy gulped when he saw that the only people there were the football jocks and their girls, not even any of Jimmy's cooler friends were there. "Uh oh." He said to himself.
John and his buddy and the star receiver Matt saw Jimmy elaborately dressed as a mummy for Halloween. "Oh hey there, Jimbo, you made it!" they laughed and grabbed Jimmy, dragging him toward the middle of the yard. "Lookie here, everyone! Jimmy came!"
The crowed laughed at him like he was to be a part of their ridicule. It was all part of the plan, his mom was right! What Now?
