While Connor was getting through his first day at Moon Lake High with some help from his new friend Ryan Chang, his sister Ava was having a slightly different but slightly similar experience. After getting off the bus and walking into the school, Ava found her first class of the day and sat down in a desk. There was still a good 15 or so minutes before the bell rang. While she waited, she reached into her backpack and pulled out a small sketchbook and a pencil. She then opened the book to a blank page and began to doodle.
Ava stopped drawing when she heard the sound of the chair next to hers being pulled out. Looking over, she saw a brown haired girl with green eyes sit down next to her.
“Hello,” the girl said with a polite smile. “I haven’t seen you here before. Are you new?”
“Oh...yeah, I just moved in yesterday,” Ava said. “My name is Ava.” She held out her hand for a handshake, and the brown haired girl accepted it.
“It’s very nice to meet you Ava,” the girl said. “I’m Ashley.”
“How old are you Ashley?” Ava asked, trying to get to know the girl a bit better.
“I’m 14. You?”
“Also 14.”
“Nice!” Ashley said with excitement before lowering her voice. “Have you been told about…”
“The town secret?” Ava finished. “Yes, I’ve been told about it, and I think it’s really cool that Weres exist! I’ve just got to think about what kind I want to become.”
Ashley smiled. “Do you volunteer to be your family’s Were?”
Ava shook her head. “No, my older brother Connor did,” she said. “I don’t blame him for wanting to become one though. It turns out that an old friend of his that has become close to our family moved here a few months ago and was a werewolf all this time. Fate would have it that we would end up moving to the same place because of my Dad’s promotion.”
Ashley laughed. “Small world, isn’t it? So what kind of Were are you thinking of at the moment?”
Ava was quiet as she thought to herself for a minute before speaking again. “I’ve only seen one species of Were in my time here, and that’s a Werecat. I got to see what Mrs. Twist’s fursona looks like. She was so beautiful as a Werecat!”
“Well let me tell you, being a Werecat is amazing,” Ashley said with a smile.
“You’re a Werecat?” Ava asked.
“Yep! I was born here, and I’ve been a Werecat all my life. It’s quite nice, and I definitely recommend you become one.”
“Well, I’d love to…” Ava said, trailing off slightly. “But what Mrs. Twist told me is somewhat unnerving. She said that all Werecats are bisexual or full lesbians. I’ve never thought of a girl as anything more than a friend, and I like guys.”
“Oh…” Ashley said, sounding slightly disappointed.
“But...I think I’d be willing to sacrifice being straight in order to be a Werecat…” Ava said quietly so only Ashley could hear. “I’ve still got to do my research, but the opportunity to be beautiful like that is something that I really don’t want to pass up.”
Ashley’s frown turned into a huge grin. “That’s great to hear!” She said happily. “Tell you what: I can help you out with your research on Werecats! I’ll even show you my fursona some time! If you want, you could maybe even come over to my house today after school!”
“Really?!” Ava asked, excited that she had already made friends with a Werecat who wanted to help her with her research. “Thank you Ashley!”
“It’s no problem Ava,” the girl said with a smile. “Anything to help out a potential Werecat.”
