As you walk across the camp’s grounds you decide to take a look in the satchel you now carrying. Mostly just what you’d expect a Camp Counsellor to have but some a pair of sunglasses and a silver whistle attached to some string which allows you to place it around your neck. As you for some reason don the whistle you also place the sunglasses atop your eyes.
You’re amazed at the difference. Somehow despite the tinted view you now see the camp much clearer than before. The nervousness you previously possessed due to being separated from Taylor is rapidly washed away and replaced with a new found confidence which you now carry yourself with.
Your hips and body sway as if you’d had them for years. You also begin to notice how others view you, you see the campers look at you with the same looks you’d seen your peers look at teachers and other authority figures. And then there are the Counsellors, the few ones you pass by as you walk to meet your group all give you looks as if they see you as an equal.
And the odd thing is none of this surprises you. You feel that somehow used to those looks. You’re getting slightly concerned something is going on, you and Taylor have gotten way too into character and you’re still not any closer to figuring out what on earth is going on in this place.
However the time to ponder this is quickly taken for you as you sight a group of campers in swim clothes standing near the lake. Someone tells you they’re waiting for you. From the distance you can even vaguely make out Betsy standing on the edge of the group, she seems to be nervous and surveying the area.
You’ll have to keep a special eye on that troublemaker..... to make sure her investigation is successful, you quickly add on.
In spite of having no idea what you’re suppose to do and really just being a young teen boy, not a grown female Counsellor, you don’t alter your pace or stature and instead proceeds with the same confidence you’re becoming used to.
“Already listen up campers! I want you to all line up A to Z, join the line as I call your name. Understood?” You relay the directions without hesitation and quickly whip out a clip board from your satchel and proceed to begin calling out their names.
Soon before you can even think about what you’re doing you’re giving a speech introducing what you’ll all be doing today to the Campers. You don’t even know what most of the stuff you’re taking about is. Whatever you’re saying must be right though as all the Campers listen attentively.
Soon they’re all in the water as you watch from close by, yelling instructions and directions and getting their attention through usage of the whistle you put on eariler.
You’re confused at how you know so much about swimming, you barely ever go swimming. Well there was that trip a few days before you arrived here where you went and rode some hella wicked waves one last time before having to head down here... wait... you don’t surf. And now you’re even using Cali slang in your head to.
“Well of course I am. I am like a Cali girl through and through after all” You remark to yourself with pride before blinking, confused. What was that about? You’re not a New Hampshire Boy, you’re a Cali girl! Wait... you meant to think that the other way around.. you think.
You distract your head to do away with the dizziness and then look around across the girls playing in the water. None seem to have noticed your comment or confusion.
Memories of growing up in the Bay Area of San Francisco flow like soft waves around your mind. You were practically raised on the waves so it’s non shocking you know a little thing of two about the water. Your knowledge is something you take quite a bit of pride on in fact and you won’t have yourself or anyone else telling you otherwise.
With that internal conflict settled you get back to supervising with a feeling of even more confidence than before. You make sure to keep an eye on Miss Queen to make sure she won’t pull any stupid stunts. You give a mile frown of annoyence at her, troublemakers like her have also been a bane of Counsllors.
You hope that after this she cleans up her act and doesn’t get into any more trou... you mean, you hope she’ll be able to keep investigating and alleviate a burden off of you and Taylor so that a answer comes along quicker..
You shake your head to clear it once again. The heat must being getting to you, you think. You take a large slurp of water and then decide to simply focus on getting through the girl and supervising the campers. You will decide what happens next once the day comes to a close and you have some breathing room.
