To your shock, you find yourself facing an incredibly beautiful suite of rooms. Off the main sitting room are three large bedrooms, all connected, two with carefully shaded windows, but the middle one, you note, having no windows at all. Despite this, the rooms are all brightly lit with numerous lamps, and are richly furnished, including with large canopy beds.
"Mrs. Ensar...Ma'am...this is too much," you stammer. "I am merely here as an employee of Marquis Rajes...to stay in such rooms..."
"Your employment situation has not yet been detailed, I believe, Miss?" Mrs. Ensar states matter-of-factly. "Therefore, until further instruction is given, you, the young Miss, and the young Master are precious guests of His Lordship, and will be treated as such." It is obvious from her manner that Mrs. Ensar will brook no argument, and you cannot think of any protestation that would work at the moment. "The servants will bring up some refreshments in a while. Please ring for the maid should you require anything," Mrs. Ensar continues, indicating the bell-pull in the corner of the room, then with a nod, exiting.
Once the hallway doors are closed behind you, you let out a sigh, then carry Garn to one of the windowed rooms, laying him carefully on the bed and removing his shoes. You would change him into his bedclothes, but given that you are not sure how long you will remain in the guest rooms, you decide to let him be for now and tuck him in. As you re-enter the sitting room after turning down the bedroom lamps, Elisa stands in front of you and gives you an intense stare.
"Sister...I'm not sure what job that man wanted to hire you for, but you don't need to take it!" Elisa states seriously, then runs to hold your hand. "Garn is doing better now, and I can work. We can live on our own, like before!" You sigh inwardly. Elisa was always a savvy child, too mature for her age, and you can now understand why she was giving the Marquis such dirty looks. However, you know that there is no other way out for you.
"Now, now, I know you can work, but this position is actually a very good one," you smile lovingly down at Elisa, whose brows are knotted in worry. "And the marquis was very kind to offer it to me. Don't fret, I wouldn't take any job that would get us into trouble, okay?" Unconvinced, Elisa frowns at you, but reluctantly gives way. You usher her into the other windowed bedroom and tuck her into bed as well, fully dressed. Although she is troubled, sleep finally catches up with her.
You, on the other hand, cannot sleep despite the obvious gesture of the marquis in providing you with a windowless bedroom. You spend the day in the sitting room, going over events in your head. Eventually the human maids bring up some snacks, and your siblings cannot resist the rich food once they wake up in the afternoon. Surprisingly, you do not feel extremely tired despite your long period without sleep.
As the sun sinks toward the horizon, a knock comes at the door, and it opens. A young male servant enters and bows to you as Garn and Elisa look on in wonder.
"If you please, Miss, His Lordship will see you now."
