(Also, quick note: I ship Alan and Mark. So there will be a chapter in which they will mate and probably even lay eggs.)
As the sun rises from the horizon and the sunlight touches my light receptors (earthworms don't have eyes), I suddenly wake up from my sleep. Almost immediately, I rushed to Mark's burrow and said:
"Wake up, Mark!"
"Okay, Alan. You don't have to shout like that. Plus, what are you so excited about?"
"For today, of course!"
"But why are you excited for today?" he asked.
"Because today we can start doing our work!" I said with an enthusiastic tone
"What work will we do?"
"Have you ever bothered to notice why we're called earthworms and not just simply worms?"
"No. Why should I bother to ask myself something like that?" he said a confused and shocked expression
"I think that the reason we're called earthworms is not just because we live underground but we also help make the dirt more fertile for plants. It's kind of crazy to see that even after a day here, we still haven't served our purpose"
"Wait, so we're technically those plant's slaves?"
"No, we're not. The only reason why we're doing this in the first place is because plants can't do it themselves. They can't even move! And yes, I'm said that literally. Plants couldn't move."
"That actually makes sense. You're pretty wise for an earthworm your size."
"But I'm the same size you... Nevermind, let's go have breakfast so that we can be ready to do our work"
"Okay!" he replies
After that we went to eat our breakfast and a few minutes later, we met each other again and then Mark started asking:
"So, what are we supposed to do?'
"Didn't I already explained that to you?"
"Yes, I know that but how are we going to do it? Like, what are the instructions? And what will we contribute if we did the work?"
"Well, to simplify it: First, we need to crawl to the surface and search for any organic plant matter like leaves. Then, we'll break it down and once we've eaten those leaves or broken them down, our castings will be used to by those humans and plants as a form of fertilizer"
"So, we have to find organic plant matter and break it down and...." Mark pauses for a few seconds before continuing "Are we only used for our poop and that this is basically just one big eating contest?"
"Technically, yes"
"That's fine for me as long as we aren't captured or killed in the process"
A few minutes later, we started crawling to the ground and start doing our work. We start by searching for leaves and after we've found them, we dragged them to our burrows to see who collected more, who could eat more but most important of all: Who could produce more castings. After a few hours of searching and eating we finished our work. And I said to Mark:
"Mark, there was something I wanted to tell you these past two days"
"Well, what is it?"
"I love you and that I would totally mate with you if you gave me permission"
"I actually wanted to tell you that as well. We're like love at first sight"
"Yeah, same here. So, can I mate with you?"
After a few minutes of thinking, he said
