Kyle was overjoyed to finally be out of the life of that tree, as he had given up on doing or seeing anything else long ago. As his vision cleared, however, it took him a moment to make sense of what he was seeing. It was the inside of a room, but everything looked large and kind of blurry. He was still naked, but lying on his stomach, arms at his side, and he had absolutely no hair. What ever he was laying on was warm and pulsing regularly, like a heartbeat. Just then, the surface he was on turned around, and he saw the giant face of the groundskeeper in front of him. Kyle realized he must be only six or seven inches tall, as he fit into the groundskeeper's hand!
"No luck, then," said the groundskeeper, who set down the device (now the same size as Kyle!) on a nearby table. Kyle tried to move around to chase after it, but his arms were stuck to the side of his body and his legs refused to separate. He also noticed that his tongue was flicking into and out of his mouth rapidly.
"It was worth a shot, I guess. Oh well, I'll figure out how to work this thing one of these days," the groundskeeper said as moved to another corner of the room, where Kyle saw a large glass box on a desk. The box was filled with what looked like sand and plants, and there was a lamp pointing at one half of it. The man opened the top, and set the confused but excited Kyle inside the dark half. As he looked up to see the groundskeeper close the lid, Kyle started to feel cold with the absence of the man's warm hands. He tried again to just stand up, or even separate his arms to walk forward, but was once again unable to move his limbs independently.
However, as he struggled he saw that he was able to twist his body far more than any human could, and then he realized who's life he had swapped with.
"I'm in the life of a snake!" Kyle thought. With this realization, he tried to twist his body side to side, and was able to slither forward, his skin pressing against the sand and root-covered floor. Kyle moved to the other half of the terrarium, and felt better in the warm light. He couldn't help but feel excited. Despite being in the life of a pet, this was far better than being a tree.
