Amazingly, the officer who'd been hit by the explosion seemed to regain his composure quickly and dashed towards your side of the room.
As soon as he grabbed your arm, you find yourself in a whirl of purple and the pit of the stomach made it feel like you were riding the most hair raising roller-coaster you'd ever been. However, the officer must have taken off whatever contraption was limiting your breathing because you were able to take a deeper breath than usual. You were still trapped in your latex prison but at this point you felt like you shouldn't count your blessings.
You caught a glimpse of the other "doll" and surmised that the officer must have been able to grab it as well. The officer spoke up.
"I hope you can hear me talk, otherwise this is going to be kind of awkward. I managed to block the magic surge just in time to deflect most of it. It still got me good but luckily it wasn't a focused spell so its strength was mitigated by that. It will take longer for it to take a hold on me, unlike the chief. It didn't help that he is what we call a magic tuning fork, meaning that he absorbs magic more than the average magic user.
Hopefully we'll get some help before I lose all control. Even teleporting us to HQ is taking longer than usual. I must be losing grip on my magic... "
Noting the worrying tone of his voice towards the end, he quickly added
"Not to worry, it just means I have some time to fill you in on what's been going on on our side"
