"Come on..." Edwin Dias groaned out loud to himself as he looked at the casting list for the play. Everyone was gathered around it to see their parts, but Edwin just couldn't understand why he had gotten the role he had. "I got the role of the princess?!" Some of the students around him laughed at his dismay, but he didn't see this as funny.
"Relax big bro, look!" His 14-year-old adopted sister Dawn said, her blue hair flowing down to her waist as she attempted to cheer her brother up. "I got the part of the knight that's gonna save you!"
“That doesn’t help things…” Edwin muttered to himself, remembering the rules that Ms. Hernandez, the teacher supervising the production of the play, had laid out. Signing up and auditioning meant that you would be committed to playing the role that you were assigned, no matter what it was. In the case that your body wouldn’t be able to suit the role, you would have to find another. And in Edwin’s case… he’d definitely have to get a new body.
“What’s so bad about this?” Dawn inquired. “You love trying out new bodies, don’t you? I mean, I know that you’re fond of your original one, but that’s never stopped you before!”
Edwin looked down at his body, the one that he had been born with. It had a dark tan skin color, fitting for a boy of Latino descent, with a rather lean build with not too many muscles to mention. It was an average height as well, although it was fairly shorter than the other bodies he would try out.
Looking at his sister, he was reminded of the fact that she had chosen a new body for herself. She had done it two months prior, but Edwin was still getting used to his little sister’s form. Its skin was a tanned Caucasian white, which fit her face, but the rest of her body was another story.
Height wise, she was a few inches shorter than Edwin, which helped their dynamic. But her new body possessed curves and assets that her old body could only dream of, leaving Edwin always surprised when she insisted that the body was from a kid that was only a year older than her.
“Yeah, you’re right…” Edwin admitted, turning to face his little sister. “But I’ve only taken male bodies before. Any effects they might’ve had on my face would’ve been easily undone when I slipped my old body back on. This is different, I’m gonna have to wear a female’s body now. Who knows what kind of effects a female’s body might have on me?”
“I know it might be scary, but hey, at least I’ll be doing it right along with you, right?” Dawn said, placing a hand on her brother’s back reassuringly.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right…” Edwin let out, still having some reservations about this whole thing. Besides, it wasn’t like he hated the part. He was simply worried about his impending switch in gender. He’d have to do it, though, which was a fact Edwin was beginning to resign himself to.
“So, you thinking about the kind of female body you’re gonna pick?” Dawn asked, seeing that her brother was feeling somewhat better. “I could always lend you mine, if you want! That way, I could get yours, and both our problems could be solved!”
“Hmm…” Edwin put a hand to his chin in thought, beginning to examine his choices. “Well, I think I’ve got an idea…”
