Kathy lived on the farm with quite the family of characters so to speak; her two older brothers Joseph and Mark were not exactly the ideal older brothers - both preferred not interacting with her, due to the dissonance in ages and how awkward Kathy was. Joseph was 30 and easily the star of the family. Tall, athletic and muscled, bequeathed a great and impressive tan, dark haired Joseph was the apple of his father's eye especially as his father deteriorated in age. It was his blatant intention to hand the farm over to Joseph.
Her other older brother, Mark, was more direct in his meanness. He made fun of her for not being quite so outgoing, and claimed openly she was just gonna be fat before long. She didn't know why Mark was suddenly so mean when he'd been nice before. Just that it hurt her, deep down, and she wished Mark could be nice again. Nice Mark was always better than mean Mark.
As she tiptoed over to the book, she was cautious as to not make too much noise. If this was something her brothers considered "theirs", they'd give her hell in a handbasket for touching it. But when she picked it up and took it to hear seat, nothing happened. She was left looking at a book with a silvery, stylized bull skull on the front.
She opened it to the first page, and saw there was a pencil left with it, bound to the book itself. Instructions? She didn't get most of what was supposed to be going on here, but she did see something about writing a name. The rest was some menagerie of words she couldn't even begin to understand. Babble, really. And she was supposed to be good with her written language!
Kathy decided to see what happened, and wrote down the name of Joseph Kentton, her oldest brother, in the book. She let out a soft scream when the book seemed to light up and she threw it at the floor and darted behind the seats. She only started to move back out when the glowing stopped and the odd white noise sound from the book quieted. "What...just happened?"

Outside, Joseph was looking over all that was due to be his when he felt a strange tingling sensation rush over his body all at once. He bet it was just that he'd been out all day doing business and handling things. "Mark! I'm heading indoors to catch a break. You finish up out here." And with that Joseph went indoors, outright ignoring his sister to the point of not even saying hello when he passed her. He was sweating a lot. He felt weird. As he got up to his room he took off his shirt and pants in a hurry, laying down on his bed to cool off...
